Wednesday morning we lost a nice mare. Secret Game (SI 101) was a stakes qualifier that produced several race ROM earners, including stakes qualifiers and a stakes placer. She was an own daughter of The Signature (SI 107) out of Sweet Game (SI 101) who produced 15 race ROM earners, including stakes winners. She was a gentle giant, and I will miss her greeting me in the pasture to get a scratch on her forehead. Her final gift to us was a beautiful filly by Stoli. She had a rough first couple of days, but appears to be doing well now. Pictured is Secret from a couple of weeks ago, and her filly with her nurse mare at about 17 hours.

Yes, it's bittersweet. I was hoping for a filly out of this mare for me to keep, and I'm so happy that she gave me exactly what I wanted. I think this filly was born a little early based on normal gestation for this mare. It was like she waited for me to come out to the barn to lay down and foal. She was born Tuesday evening around 7:00, and wouldn't have made it if I hadn't been there.

Congrats on the filly (and a nurse mare!) !!

Very sorry for your loss.  It's never easy, but especially bittersweet when you lose a mare during or shortly after foaling.

Thank you. I know that there is always a chance of losing the mare, foal, or both. But it still breaks your heart. At about the same time our filly was born, a family down the road had a mare lose her foal at foaling. I was worried about the mare accepting this filly, but as soon as I got them in the pen together they went right to each other. She was looking for a baby as much as our little girl was looking for a mommy. I am so thankful to have found this mare.

I have goosebumps and tears.   My biggest fear is losing a mare.  I am soooo sorry for your loss and so happy she gave you just what you wanted!

I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful mare. It's never easy I just lost my beautiful filly yesterday afternoon after fighting to save her for over 30 hours. It's heartbreaking to lose one. Congrats on your beautiful filly though, your mare gave you something special.
