I always seem to struggle with getting the "perfect fit" when it comes to saddle pads and my gelding. He's a stocky, big built quarter horse with some foundation breeding. He has a really wide back and a big barrel so every pad I put on him always seems to be spread out more than it's made to be, causing it to slide down and sit flat on his back, and not have that support that the same pad will have on my other horses. Right now I'm using a wade pad, which I love on my other horses, but it seems like the binding down the center isn't made to sit that wide, causing it to sit really flat on him. A friend of mine is also running into the same problems with her mare who also has a wider back.

I've tried impact gel, professionals choice, orth-equine, and now wades. I just want to find a pad that fits his body type so he can get that perfect fit and support.

Has anyone else ever run into these problems? Or found a pad that works for horses of this size? I've thought about trying a five star or best ever, but I don't want to throw more money away just to be back to square one. Thanks in advance for any help!

Try Larry Coats Balance pad. It's cut to give them more room!!

I think a 5 star would be a good choice...

The center binding in the wades has always looked very stiff to me, and I've heard a lot of folks mention that it's actually caused rubs on their horses. My 5 star's binding is soft and flexible, I would think it would mold right to a wide backed horse...
