So apparently my sunblock is old. I mean it's only 2 years old and has been living in my trailer and probably went bad a long time ago. Shouldn't this stuff last forever ??!!! (My mom says no and gave me the good mother talk about taking care of my skin)

So, after 4 hours of working the 3 yo at the local state park (which was AWESOME by the way) ... I am now sporting a sweet sweet sunburn. Any helpful remedies for easing the redness, heat, tender stuff, and pain?

I took some Ibuprofen and a shower followed by lotion and aloe. It is holding ok for now ...

Would take several showers that are not hot and get them as cool as you can stand. Take some nsaid. Ibuprophen 800 mg is,a prescription dose you could use some, baking soda then get in shower. Hadnot had a sunburn for a long time.

Interesting! I have never heard of using baking soda ... just dump it on and then get in the shower? Or do you make a paste and then apply ... hmmmm ....

I'm not Mexican-but apple cider vinegar works the best! pulls all the soreness out plus helps it not to blister. Smells awful, but it works...

Ocean's Potion.  I'm pretty sure you can get it at Walmart/Walgreens.  It is a blue gel that has aloe vera, LIDOCAINE(takes to sting/fire out) and tea tree oil extract.  Love this stuff.  I feel for you as I stayed out way too long today riding in working outside.  Ouch!

Apple cider vinegar. Get in the shower pour it over the sunburn. It might sting a bit but will turn it brown/ take the sting out. Then lotion so you don't peel. And keep lotion on In the past I've tried refrigerated aloe gel, sliced cucumbers, real aloe plants, etc. vinegar works the best for me. The lotion I use is the ocean potion lotion not the gel. Haven't tried the gel yet!

I use 100% aloe vera.  You can buy it at most supermarkets.  I would not use lotion unless you have an all natural brand that does not contain alcohol.   Two or three uses of the aloe vera will take the heat out of the sunburn.  Burts Bees also makes a great skin repair product for sunburns.

My last sunburn wrapped up pretty quick with aloe Vera.  I've been burned many a time being a redhead and vigorously applying aloe Vera and taking cold(er) showers works for me.  Maybe I'll try the apple cider vinegar on my next burn....

well since I have an allergy to Lidocaine ... I think I may pass on that but it could be SUPER interesting if I did slather it on!! LOL!

It was a fab day of working horses and cloudy and warm and ... well I obviously didn't pay enough attention to my skin that was redding up nicely! Cheers to good days of working horses!

As a fair skined freckled red head the best remedy is Desitin - that is right - the diaper ointment! Even the most severe sunburn will be all but gone the next day. Just spread it on the burns as you would a diaper rash and it goes away.

I did slather some of that on with lotion after a shower with apple cider vinegar this morning ... so far so good!!

ETA - the silvadine stuff ... I don't have any mary kay stuff right now.

vinegar. I'm very fair skinned and burn easily. you'll smell bad but it helps a lot and is so worth it. and take care of your skin woman! you can get the fancy coppertone sport spray that's quick and easy to apply and it works!! but all sunscreen requires you reapply every few hours. the sun is a dangerous thing!

PS refrain from using lotion until that burning pain feeling is gone. lotion will trap the burn. hence why the aloe vera stuff is always in a gel!

Oh yikes I forgot there are lots of folks out there allergic to lidocaine!!  Yeah, that wouldn't be a good thing!  My burn is already better today and it will be tan tomorrow.  I don't need to get too much sun as skin cancer is a big concern with my Irish heritage but the problem is that I can't find a GREAT sunscreen that doesn't feel super sticky in our East Texas humidity.  Anyone have any ideas??

The best thing i've found is Cerave Cream. Its in a big jar, found at most drugstores, and walmart, target etc Its super thick, soaks right in. after one or two applications, you barely know you got sunburned!

So when it's new and not ancient ... I LOVE the coppertone sport spray stuff - make sure it is the stuff made for when you sweat! It really works well and I don't have a big problem with it getting sticky in north central KS.

I am usually really good about taking care of my skin and was relying on my sun block that apparently went bad and old. :)

I tried the vinegar today and WOW! It works really well!

I am the queen of sunburns. This is what I use except I put mine in the refrigerator. Soak in a tub of water or shower in water as cold as you can stand it. If you can get a aloe plant, fresh aloe will work wonders. Remember to use a very good lotion after a few days to keep from peeling.

Don't know where hers was but you can get on in Alabama. Went swimming today. Suppose to be 90 degrees tomorrow.

Noxema!!! Best thing ever! Sunburnt my legs so bad one day at the beach that I literally couldn't move, swelled up and everything, anyway, a friend of mine is an ER doctor and told me to slap some noxema on it, don't rub it in let it absorb. Unbelievable how well it worked!
