Location: Do I hear Banjos? | The tornado passed to the east of us a few miles. We drove through where it crossed Hwy 10 on the way in to work this morning. It cust a pretty big path even back this way whisch is where it basically got started. There were huge trees ripped up and tossed down...but amazingly the two horse properties there had all buildings standing. Fences and every single tree gone. Its crazy how a tornado can do that...total destruction just inches from an intact house.
It went through some of the exact same areas that the one did in 2011. They had just about finished re-building a school in Vilonia...it's completely destroyed once again. Seems like a lot of casualties. Just so sad and scary. I really feel for those folks. |

The ones in AR should have had warnings. I was watching continuous coverage on the local news (also broadcasted to fm radio) and they and the NWS were on top of things. While watching a storm chaser dash cam tho, the chaser stopped before the spot where the tornado crossed I40, and people were steadily driving by him right towards it, completely oblivious. |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | I saw that video too. I couldn't believe people were driving past that guy as if they were oblivious! It was Pitch Black! They had to know something was bad up ahead.
I hear this morning that 3 people were killed just east of us in Paron. That's about where the thing started I think. They likely had little warning...but the radio and all TV were on top of it quick and had tracking and warnings out. |

| Small Norma update. Friend said that her hubby had somewhere to be today, so that could be why she's MIA. She was going to try to call (planned on it anyways) but was going to try to call earlier and let us know. :)
Maybe she'll check in sooner than I get notified though.
Also, we were just put under a Tornado WATCH until 7pm. (SE Iowa) Ugh. |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | This website has had me mesmerized for an hour. Its a searchable database of all tornadoes since about 1950. Looking at Arkansas it's facinating to me. the details of each one. I was looking for the track of the one that happened about this time in 2011 over the same area. That was just an F2 ("Just").

Thanks, Roxie and Rae for updating.......I have been returning messages and calls.....Sorry.......We didn’t blow away and we didn’t wash away. We did get over 6+” of rain and LOTS of lightning. That is the reason that I did not get on FB or BHW this morning. I had unplugged everything early last night and we had to leave early this morning because John had an appt. at the VA medical center in Poplar Bluff, MO. We had to take a circuitous route due to many roads being flooded. The tornadoes were just to the south and west of us and took out the towns of Mayflower and Vilonia. Thanks to everyone for the calls and concerns but we are safe and sound for now…..may have more severe storms tonight. |

Thanks to everyone for the calls and concerns but we are safe and sound for now…..may have more severe storms tonight.
Holy Cow that's a lot of rain! We needed rain in the worst way too and as of half hour ago we've had 2 inches and its still coming down. Such a blessing. I'm so glad you and your hubby are safe. Where abouts are you located? |

CurlyQ - 2014-04-28 8:49 AM I read that there were no warnings or sirens. Horrific devastation
I don't even remember where I read it. Glad you're ok. Looks like another is brewing in Alabama right now. Not sure, I've been at work all day. Farrierlady is over there somewhere :) |

We did get over 6+” of rain and LOTS of lightning. That is the reason that I did not get on FB or BHW this morning. We are in NE AR......We had plenty of warning. The TV stations were all over this storm and it was a nasty one. At one time, it was reported that it was 1/2 mile wide and on the ground for 35-40 miles (clocked at 140 mph). We probably got closer to 7+ inches of rain. I had dumped the rain gauge at 1". It holds 6" and it was full and running over. The lightning was the scariest. The TV weatherman showed a section of NE AR and there were almost 3000 lightning strikes in 5 minutes. |

Location: North MS | So far three tornadoes in MS. One in Yazoo City, another in Tupelo and the latest one in Macon, MS. All wedge tornadoes they say. They had rotation in the air and 110 mph winds not 5 miles from my home. Thankfully it started to the South of me just across of the Grenada Lake bottomland area and ended up going East of me and straight on to Tupelo, MS. We ended up with some wind, hail and rain. A friend of mine was in the Scruggs farm and garden supply (kind of like a lowes size place but with more ag type things including tack, boots, western wear) in Tupelo when it hit. He said they put about 120 people in the restrooms and the roof was creaking and popping. Not 1/2 mile from there it bent over several of the thick metal high voltage power poles. Twisted one of them across the Intersection of HWY 45 & 78 blocking traffic. Railroad tracks are blocked. Three restaraunts wiped out- two destroyed for sure. One gas station gone. I know there is a lot more damage but that is on the main strip in Tupelo. I almost went there yesterday to shop. I had today off and really had hoped I might be able to head there this evening. Completely out of the question now. This tupelo tornado actually hit the area where our local news station is- at one point the feed was still going and all of the news team and crew had to leave to get in the basement. All on field. They caught sight of the tornado developing in the distance and kept checking in on the suspicious clouds until they fully developed. WTVA is the news station and the youtube videos are already up if anyone is interested. So far no loss of life reported. |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | I hope we can get through the night without a tornado warning because we are both hearing impaired and can't hear sirens. We have a weather radio but last time it didn't go off and there's no one around here to work on it. I have text alerts set up through my phone but I don't always hear them. Wish someone would offer a automated calling service similar to what our schools use for notices. |

Don't know where you're at but the weather channel is posting on Twitter at least a couple minutes before you hear it on TV. Follow @TWCBreaking @weatherchannel
Weather.gov is also more specific to your area.
Birmingham is getting hit hard right now..... Also south of Shelbyville in Franklin and Lincoln county and east of there. Reports coming in around Flintville got leveled --- that whole region around Franklin is big horse country.
We're watching the same cell head our way..... it's a little too close for comfort and could go either right over us or just north by not too far... Next county over under tornado warning.

Wow! For that price I would think just about everybody would have one. I wonder how much one would cost then that could hold a couple horses with just straight tie stalls? How big is your's? |

For that price I would think just about everybody would have one. I wonder how much one would cost then that could hold a couple horses with just straight tie stalls? How big is your's? Not everyone has the type of ground for an underground shelter. I know someone who had one & was unable to keep it in the ground due to the water level below or something like that. Not all ground in the conditions are suitable for basements or underground tornado shelters. As far as everyone having a shelter, $3K seems like a million dollars to many. Lots can't afford that. For saferooms, not every home has a place for one unless they just set it outside in the yard. Some people put them in a garage, but not all homes have a garage. Some can redo a place in their house to put one, but again the expense to remodel. Not sure how easy they are to get into an existing house. I am not sure if a saferoom would work in a house with a crawl space. Seems like it would be better in a house with a slab foundation.

I have IMAP weather radio app on my phone. It beeps LOUDLY and then talks to you. I'm deaf in one ear and have yet to sleep through a warning, even if I'm laying on my good ear. |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | Be sure to keep your phones turned up!! If it wasn't for my phone we never would have known we were under a tornado warning. I had the weather channel on the Tv and internet and on twitter. Just Thunder storm warning and thats all. NOAA didnt show anything either. Local news we can get was busy with regular programming. Radar showed several red cells headed our way.The alert went off on our phone saying take immediate cover-- we live in a doublewide so we headed to my FIL. We had NO idea where it was but headed out to shelter. Wound up driving directly into it. Never been so scared in all my life! We made it to the FIL and rode it out. Found out this morning that Chattanooga news we can't get had mentioned our road when they reported the warning. Our local Knoxville news didn't report on it intil it was already over us and we were out the door! Fortunately we didn't have damage in our area but it's scary not knowing where the cell is at because there's no info and its dark!! |

Was laying in bed watching a movie until something big hit my window right at the head of my bed. Unsure what it was. We've had 2 rounds of hail major major lightening and constant 60mph wind. According to our news station we had gusts up to 90mph with 2 tornado warnings. I've been through many many storms and hurricanes but I've NEVER been that scarred in my life. It's a bad bad feeling when you can feel your house moving and it's creaking and popping. |
