There isn't much of a selection out there for pony (mine needs a 4 1/2" mouthpiece) bits.  I found a little Argentine Snaffle but, could use a little more bit than that.  I got a curb chain that has a little more "bite" to it than a regular flat chain.  Our pony is 49" tall.  We eventually plan on doing some breakaway on him and are going to need something for a better stop.  I also would like something that my grandson could handle him with.
One lady told me to buy a 5" mouthpiece bit and take up the excess space with bit guards.  Possibility??
