It should be dry. We had tons of rain two days in a row. I think it's a 10% chance every day from now until Derby Day. I'd bet on a dry track.

The California Chrome story is sweet, but IMO he'll be over bet and might not be able to go the distance. I kind of like the Hoppertunity horse.

I am going to say Wicked Strong drawing the 20 hole has me wanting to throw him out of my exotics.  AND I am not thrilled with Victors in Trouble in the 1.   Makes you wonder what they were thinking when they named them, because it's coming into play. ROTFLMAO

The 456 are going to be breaking fast.......And Tapiture has spiked my interest since we know he likes the track.  Lot's of studying/handicapping for me for the next few days!

I hate that Wicked Strong drew the 20 hole! A dear friend and former employee galloped for Centennial while in Middleburg and is now working for Jimmy, so because of the connections, I'll just be pulling for him even harder now.

There's a group of 10 of us going to Ellis park for the Derby. We go there every year.  Had 8 seats reserved in the clubhouse and then wanted to add 2 on Monday. Had a hard time getting it done. If we didn't have a table every year we wouldn't have been able to get those extra 2 seats.

Means a large crowd this year.

I was a CC fan for a long time and still am. But now that he's everyone's number 1 the odds will be terrible. I'll still bet him but I'm looking for one with better odds now. I would like for that to be Ride On Curlin but the CB connection will drive bettors to him too.

Sounds like a fantastic fun time.

CC  might go off with better odds than we have seen in awhile, the draw was not kind to his threats, but I will not bet him at even.  IMHO he is the one to beat. He can open and close fractions and even if it not the distance most want, he has opened and closed his races. (meaning fractions for those who do not know) I dislike he has stayed in Cal for all of his races.  Cali bred to boot.  BUT I love him anyway!

I'm going with Tapiture(big Tapit fan)

California Chrome

And, I saw Ride On Curlin break his maiden last year at Ellis, that dude is CLASSY, even as a 2yr old he had his own "presence", so he is one of my picks. Definitely helps that Calvin is on him. Wish he was closer to the rail but if ROC and Borel are on their game and trust each other they should be fine.

I haven't heart if Mike got a ride yet.... I watched the coverage this AM and they didn't talk about it.

It's 60 degrees right now and getting cloudy, but it's only a 10-20% change of rain today. Don't worry about a muddy/sloppy track tomorrow. It will be 75 and sunny, so a fast track for sure.

The jets are starting to land at the airport and everyone is off work here in Louisville. TIME TO PARTY!!!!

BlazeFlameHarley - 2014-05-02 12:31 AM I'm going with Tapiture(big Tapit fan) California Chrome And, I saw Ride On Curlin break his maiden last year at Ellis, that dude is CLASSY, even as a 2yr old he had his own "presence", so he is one of my picks. Definitely helps that Calvin is on him. Wish he was closer to the rail but if ROC and Borel are on their game and trust each other they should be fine.

Are you going to be at Ellis tomorrow?

No, unfortunately my husband and I promised to go to Illinois with my parents to help my mom with her geneology research(I wasn't thinking about it being Derby day!). Have fun! I have never been over at the club house during a big race but I usually work for a trainer through the summer so I am on the backside a LOT, if you ever come down to watch the races through the season let me know! I would love to meet up with you!

Shoot, I'm not that highfalutin to go to Derby. We drink beer and bourbon and watch it on TV, and do bets on the side. And I'm only 30 miles from the track. Go figure.

We go quite often for the live meet. No clubhouse for us then. Usually go on Sundays for the $1 beer and $1 hotdogs.

We go to the clubhouse for the Triple Crown races when there is nothing going on down on the track.

I'll let you know when we come over during the live meet.

Danza (gotta root on the Ark Derby winner & reports have him training like a boss)
Tapiture (fan of Steve A. - plus he has his regular jockey back)
Ride On Curlin (learned to never bet against CB in the Derby)

...but I won't be betting any money lol!  Sure wouldn't break my heart a bit if CC wins it either...

What a Cinderella story for California Chrome....Out of an 8000 dollar mare and 2000 stud! I actually cried when he won! How awesome is his story!

I'm weird.  I was in my kitchen standing on one of the chairs jumping up and down yelling as they came down the stretch and crying.  My dog started barking, my hubby thinks I'm nuts.

Who was second place? That's my Belmont pick! Also, what was Calvin Borel thinking with that huge lateral jump from the gate to the rail?

These are young horses, don't think that move was planned, just managed...  :-)

It looked to me like Espinoza stood in the stirrups well before the finish line, CC was easing up as they hit the wire...  Did I see that wrong?

You saw it correct.  He knows he has to come back with this horse in two weeks.  Espinoza was riding smart.

Lucky Pulpit's breeding fee is "private"...

Do you think they added at least a zero, maybe 2 zero's to his previous stud fee?

What does the sire of a Kentucky Derby winner command?

His fee is $2,500.oo live foal. I do not seeing anything changing for this year since the breeding season is all but over for the T/B industry.

On the website for where he stands it shows "private".

Just curious what a sire of Derby winner can command in fees...  I would think at least 50-60K for next season?
