Location: British Columbia | When you go to a rodeo and enter women's cow riding, do they tie that rope on themselves(the one you hold) or does the rider have to do it? I've got all the gear and just ordered some crazy colourful cheetah print chaps and thought I'd giver a whirl to check "bullriding" off my bucket list... close enough!
Anyone ever tried it? Advice on how to not die?
Please no negative Nancy's, I'm very excited to try something new!

I am going to a practice on Friday. This is not a career choice. It's a one time thing. |

Location: Middle Tennessee | I've ridden bullsfor years. Been on a few bulls that have been in the PBR. I love it, but it's a rough world for girls. We are very unwelcome. However, around here people know me now and respect me. Find someone who can help you and show you how to prepare. Practice more than once, and have fun! Call/ text me if you need any help. (423) 368-3976. Just keep in mind, injury is possible. I don't want to be negative at all, just keep that in mind. I was on a junior bull at a practice pen and my throat got stepped on and the doctors didn't know if I'd ever talk again. It can happen anytime, anywhere. But good luck! It's an addictive sport!!!

Those pictures are incredible! I am keeping it to just an amateur rodeo and cows though, those horns scare me too much! I have a few questions...
I can use both hands for this event and it's 6 seconds not 8 for me, but should I lock my elbows or keep them bent? When your hand is gripped on the rope is it knuckles over or under? Do cows spin harder than bulls? I've ridden a bronc horse but they just see saw, I noticed bulls really spin while they buck and I think that's what unseats you. And rosin helps you not slip?
Do the chaps hinder your movement at all? I'm sure I'll find a lot of this out at practice on Saturday but I'd like a head start! Lol |

Just remember, when you ride with two hands, you have a tendency to lean forward, thus, getting a face full of animal head. By riding with one hand, you use the other for balance and have a lesser chance of getting a face full!! Just an old timer(only rode about 40 in my time) talking. |

Location: Middle Tennessee | I would ride one handed. Two handed is much more dangerous. Cows typically run/buck straight down the pen, but if yours does spin try not to come off in the well (the inside of the spin). If I were you, I'd take a butterfly wrap. Google it and thepeople you practice with will know what it is. Safest way to hold your rope until you get the hang of it.
This is a good video, except don't take a full wrap until you know how to pop your hand out. If not, you could get hung up. A butterfly is when you lay it in your hand then lay it back over your palm instead of wrapping around the back of your hand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLHoHkRZxqA |

I know of one thats really low key and fun thats got the ladies cow riding. I may go make a fool of my self and go this year (not in the ruff stock lol)
From watching the events though the cows dont buck as hard or spin hard like the bulls they can be meaner than the boys, guess the bulls get it from moma lol. |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | If they are offering the event they will have someone their to help you tie on. You won't be able to do it by your self any way. They will convince you to ride with the right hand tied on if your right handed but use the hand your most comfortable in keeping your balance. Squeeze with your legs and if comfortable kick with your feet. When you buck off out the gate RUN!!! |

Oh good, that was my big concern, being able to tire it properly to make sure I have a good grip! I was showing my hubby how I plan to hold on with my arms and legs and he was howling for a solid 5 minutes... I'm sure the crowd will get some entertainment!
And Della, you should come if you are close! I'll be the girl in the leopard print chaps! |
