Location: Southern Wisconsin | Many of you know that it was our family that lost a horse last week due to EHV-1. A week ago today. Since then we have been running temps 3 times a day and have one in isolation here on the farm. Horses have been doing really well the past 9 days. We are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
If that's wasn't enough stress in my life my dog is currently sitting at UW Madison. I let her out last night and she came back with a piece of wood sticking out of her eye. You cannot see they eye. Just stick. Get her to UW and I am prepared to lose her eye. The injury is much worse than we thought. She needs and CT scan and emergency surgery. I am looking at $3,000 to save my 8 year old dog.
Surgery is a go. They decided to wait til this morning for surgery as it is one of the worst cases they have seen and they didn't know what they will find when they get in there.
Please pray for her. She is the family dog but more importantly my daughters dog. We just had to explain that Mama (ehv1 horse) went to heaven and it's too soon to have that conversation again.

Location: Southern Wisconsin | UW just called. The CT scan shows no damage to the brain or skull so that's a plus. It does show the stick ripping though the soft tissue and extending almost to the base of the neck. The surgeon who was called in doesn't feel comfortable doing the surgey. They have called in soft tissue specialists to do the surgery. We have now bumped up into the 3500-4000 bracket How she managed to do all this and remain upbeat and happy is beyond me. She is a special dog. Tanks for all the prayers and good thoughts. I will need a vacation very, very soon. |

Location: Southern Wisconsin | Thanks everybody. Sanchez is still in surgery. They told me not to he alarmed that things are still going well. Running afternoon temps on the herd now and going to get my butt up to Madison. I want to be there when she wakes up, she was a little stressed when I left her at 2 am. Location: Southern Wisconsin | You know, I have ran scenarios through my head, before she got hurt. What would I do if Sanchez got sick? How much would we spend? And when I played all these scenarios out in my head I couldn't fathom spending 1,000 to save her let alone 4,000. But when your faced with the decision all that logical reasoning goes out the window. She's an 8 year old rescue and we aren't ready to say goodbye.
Just got the call. Surgery went better than had hoped for the surgeon. She may keep the eye but it is stapled shut right now. She is in recovery right now. Thanks again for the continued prayers. Hopefully I will have a better update later tonight. |

Location: Southern Wisconsin | Sanchez is being discharged at 9 am tomorrow. She will have quite a bit of home care but things are looking up for her.
Also, all the horses temps are good. I think I am going to wrap everything in bubble wrap until further notice. Lol
