Location: So. Cali. | I think most on the board may remember about 3yrs ago when we and some friends had rescued a group of 5 horses from a ‘race track trainer’ in a bad situation. There was one colt who had horrible neglected feet. Shortly after rescuing them we were able to place this colt and his little gf filly in a ‘home’. Only 5 months later we had to re-rescue the colt in worse body condition than he was originally in and were too late to save the filly. It was truly a lesson learned, never again situations. Follower was one of the strongest, willing horses we’ve ever rescued. To pull thru not once, but twice, and still be so full of life was unbelievable. He was a very sweet colt, in your pocket, loved attention type. Unfortunately the early years of neglect and malnourishment had caused irreversible damage in his feet and lower joints. We knew he wouldn’t live a long life as full as other horses, but it never makes a decision any easier. We could no longer keep Follower comfortable and knew we had to let him go. Friday we sent Follower to be with his little filly girlfriend again and be pain free. Only 6 years old. His morning nicker is already missed.

Location: NE Texas | May God bless you as much as you blessed him! This is the love most of us will never know...the kind of love one feels when they expect to get nothing back in return. You did the right thing, TCC, no matter how much your heart hurts right now, know that the kind of love that colt experienced in the short time he lived with you is a kind most animals never get to feel. Thank you for sharing both his initial story and this one with use, and bless you and your heart for the kindness you have shown him and the others. |

Location: stray dump capital of the world | I remember him! He sure turned into a beautiful boy. I take in rescue everything...horses, goats, birds, dogs, cats...some live long lives while others are shorter. Every death breaks my heart, but there is peace in knowing each animal that passes through my life crosses the bridge knowing love and compassion. Follower had that in you and helping him move across the bridge was the last act of compassion. I will send prayers your way. So sorry for your loss. |

Location: So. Cali. | Thank you all for the kind words of comfort. I was reading them, but wasnt ready to comment again and reopen the door. I know he is in a much better place now, and I know we loved him the best we could. It's such a shame someone wasted a life with so much potential. I turned my older gelding out last night and he went down to the other end of the arena and just stood there staring at Followers empty stall. Don't care what others say, animals know.
