Location: Kansas | Hey guys, I am new on here. But I have been looking for some advice as this is my first foal experience. I have had this mare for 10 years, bred her last May 22. She is bagged down, got the jiggly butt, a little wax (has for about a week). advice from the people who have foals often would be great though. Can never be too prepared (: Any day now though!! |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | They get waxy/ filmy teats, what your looking for is a dropped belly and the true wax will be like that on a candle stick, that is long and hard. Jello like around the tail so much you can reach inside to the foal. She will be rocking her hind legs side to side, biting her sides and walking in circles. When she is like that then you have about 24 hours or less before foaling. Congratulations. I have one due around the 6th of june, from the looks of her she won't make it far. The head will come out between the front legs, you should see one leg and the other slightly behind it. Don't take the sack off until you see the back legs as they can suck them back in. |

Location: KS | Horses have extremely strong contractions. So they normally can do everything on their own. If you only see one foot call vet immediately. Both feet should come out one slightly in front of other. Once foal is mostly out you can break sac around its face. Do not try to make it, or the mare get up. Blood is still flowing thru cord. They will take their time. Some foals actually get up before the mare. Once the mare is up watch the placenta. Do not try to pull it out. It may take time but let it come out naturally. I some times tie it in a knot if they are stepping on it. If it doesn't pass, once again call your vet. They can get bad infection from retained placenta even if it's just a small piece. |

Location: Kansas | Thank you guys!! I was referred to this site by a friend. I have been into horses and barrel racing for years this is nothing new. Just new to the foaling deal. She has had the flabby butt for about a month now, has started waxing but nothing like you guys talk about. She is dropped in the belly, and as of last night it looks like you could drive a truck into her back side. I would've put money sayin she foaled last night but she didnt. Like they said a watched pot never boils. I just know as soon as i quit checking her hourly she will have it. |

Shhh I want to hear her new date of choice since April 29th at 4am has come and gone.
To the OP, I am in the same boat as you. I had one go 2 and a 1/2 weeks late... I have one left and she's due any day. She looked like she was going to go on the 27th.... I'm still waiting. I sleep on the sofa so I can get up and check on them without waking everyone and I am dying to sleep in my bed again. But I know the day I decide to is the day she will pop. |

| I'm so glad you posted this! It has been confirmed that my daughter's pony is having an "oops". I am not happy but whatever I guess I'll get over it. After numerous calls the best I can guess at a breed date was may 28, 2013 as the last possible time it may have occurred. Poor thing looks miserable, wish she'd have the darn thing. I too have NO CLUE! |

I sure the heck don't want to wait that long and I'm betting the OP doesn't either. If it helps mine has had wax (candle dripping look) since Monday night. I'm having wicked weather today or I would get pics. Thunderstorms all day and we had marble sized hail. Kinda happy she is holding it today.
