I cant think of any cons... but if youre pony is fast enough to run 2 seconds off, i would run the open "youth" class... They take back 300 finalists and usually have 600-700 entries... so about half the people get back.. and thats not even counting hit barrels... But thats our favorite show! Alot of people complain about crime in jackson, just lock your stuff up. otherwise nothing bad at all to say i would definitely go :))

BarrelRacingChick - 2014-05-08 6:32 PM Is there an age limit?? And whats the height limit for the ponies??
For the Pony Race it is my understanding that the ponies need to be under 13H and the riders under 13 years of age. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
I had heard a couple of years ago that the officials measuring the ponies were letting a few over height ponies slide in because of who they were or who they were owned by.

I think it's 58 inches....but don't quote me on that. I'm sure it's in the rules somewhere.

I know there are some where you don't have to be under 13 years old because I remember seeing pics of Bo Hill running one - with a BIG huge hat on - hilarious!

Does any one know approx. number of entries for the ponies?? Would love to hear from a family that has entered in the last few years.
We stand a Welsh stallion and have been breeding ponies for years. I have become so burnt out on the hunter pony market that we have cut way back to just one broodie for the pony stallion. This year I am turning one of our supposed to be hunter ponies into a barrel pony.......much to the SHOCK of all my hunter friends.
I have always wanted to go to the Pony Race in Jackson just to check it out but it is a long way just to go and see what is going on.
If anyone knows someone that is going or has gone previously please tell them to post.

That is from the Diamonds and Dirt futurity. They have a pony race with the top trainers in the barrel horse industry invited to participate. It is all for the K9sforCops charity I believe.
