I am finally going to break down and get a decent pad. I have heard that the 5 star pads colors may bleed onto your horse. Is this true? I have a palomino and would prefer that he stays palomino!

Yes but they only colors they offer anymore are natural, brown, and black - so unless you buy used you won't have a blue palomino...

The "old" color choices of green, red & blue did bleed some, but I've not heard of any of the black or browns doing that at all.
