| I was wondering what others opinions are on running on stone dust? There's a local jackpot that has stone dust on their ground vs dirt/sand mixture. Is it bad for horses joints etc? Some say its like running on pavement, I can understand that if its not worked up but this is worked up. |

| Sounds like decomposed granite (DG). I have it in my arena and runs off the box stalls. It's great for drainage, and it rains a lot here so I have a dry arena when everyone else is swimming. Plus my horses don't get thrush as bad as everyone else's when it rains for 90 says straight.
It depends what the arena base is. Use your best judgment. I need to add more sand and DG so it is a little hard. I will lope, rollback, spin, do big fast/slow small work, but not speed runs until I get a refill. When it does get a new load it's fine. |

Location: MD | I run at Shale Knoll, in Annville, PA from time to time. It is stone dust and I have to say, unless it is wet, I've never had any problems with it. |

| Yes crushed granite. I have it in my round pen and love it as long as its worked up. Love that it can rain in the morning and by the afternoon its back to being used. I just want to make sure im not hurting my barrel horse by running him hard on this. Well i think im going to hit the jackpot and see how how it goes :) |

| I have run on it many times, but do not prefer it (and neither does my horses). It has good grip (in fact too grippy for a couple of mine),so they can't get their butt down to slide and dig. If it rains and gets wet, look out! It is still good to run on, but your horse and tack will be a mess! It sticks like concrete!
In other words, I wouldn't not run there if I really wanted to because it's stone dust, I just do not prefer it. |
