Posting for a friend...shes got a mare in her early 20's that had her first baby last year. She weaned the baby and now 8 months later the mare is still producing milk, to the point that she is uncomfortable and doesnt want to run. Baby isnt near her at all and the mare is just out on pasture. Any ideas on how to get her to dry up??

My old POA mare had milk until the day she died. We bought her when she was 5 and she had had her baby at age 4. She didn't bag up by anymeans, but if you gave her teet a squeeze, you'd get milk.
I used to own a mare that it had been 7 yrs since she had a foal and you could still squirt watery milk out of her udder but it didn't bother her at all... been another 5 years and still the same. I have no idea but since it doesn't bother her I'm not worrying about it. really weird though! maybe dry her up with a past like they use for Dairy cows??? that's how we dried up our dairy cows. Make sure she's milked out good though. I'm just making suggestions but I'd talk to your vet before you did anything.
