I had my horse fitted on Friday and came home with a 7 1/2" X 15.5" I am using two shims and a 3/4" 5Star until my 1/2" gets here to buy me a little bit more time. I'm sure that the saddle will go back before the pad gets here so I'm trying to look for an 8 1/2" as Tracy said that I'd probably be looking for that in about a month or so. (They also put a 9 1/2" on him, but they felt it was just a tad bit too big right now and they didn't have any 8 1/2"s available to test.)
I asked them what gullet started changing the seat sizing and Brian acted like it was the larger (10-11"s) gullets and I didn't have to worry about the seat until I got up to that point... if I ever even make it there.
My horse is getting plenty of feed and he just started his own blend of THE Muscle Mass and we're trotting poles and hills to hopefully start gaining his topline back, so I'm going to go ahead and try to find a 8 1/2", but I'm just unsure of what seat size I'm looking for.
The 15.5 is too big. I was riding in a 15" Billy Cook and I've sat in 14.5 Crown Cs (not sure of the gullets. Should have paid more attention!) I really think it would be do-able (never sat in a 15" Crown C)... but I've read on here that once you start getting into a 8 1/2" or so you should add 1/2" to your seat. Is this something everyone can agree on?

I could feel a difference when I went from 7"-8" but once I got use to it I ride just as well. I would probably add a 1/2" of I ever went to a 9".
My boy is filling out nice! My boyfriend saw him today for the first time I a bit and said it was noticeable for sure. I am taking pictures along the way and I do see change, but seeing the horse everyday sometimes it's harder to see it. I did take a shim out this week though!

How long did you have to shim your Crown C for? Mine gets here mid-June and I'm curious how long it will take to notice a difference with regular riding. :)

I have a Crown C that is an 8.5 gullet and a 15in seat. The only difference I feel is that my saddle is wider due to the gullet width. I'm not sure I'm sold on that idea either. But front to back room feels the same. I was riding in a 15in circle Y

Wow, glad I saw this post. I ride a 7" on one horse and bought an 8 1/2" for another horse a few days ago. Got a 14 1/2" seat with both. I will try a 15" seat if I have to increase the 8 1/2" gullet as my horse matures.
