Location: Kansas | Asking for a friend......I know alot of people breed to the "known" sons of a certain stallion. Would it be a no-go to breed to a grandson of a stallion such as frenchmans guy, etc? if already a proven 1D barrel horse? Just a question |

| If he has documentation to back himself up I dont care if he is 10 generations removed form a "popular" name. |

So your saying......basically...if he was proven...then you would breed to said stallion? |

Yes. But...lots of people have lots of definitions of what proven is. |

Location: Southeast Louisiana | If he's done well locally, I like his style, demeanor and offspring, I wouldn't hesitate to breed to him. It takes a lot of big money to make a stallion as well known as Frenchman's Guy. There are lots of horses out there that, I believe, are just as talented, but never will be in the hands of someone who can afford to popularize them. |

Location: DUMPING CATS AND PIGS IN TEXAS :) | It depends on if you want to sell or keep the horse too. If selling is your goal, you want to come to the table with the best that you can. Not that you aren't attempting the best that you can if you keep the foal, but I would take a chance on something for myself before I would chance something that I wanted to sell if that makes sense.

| People like to see popular bloodlines when purchasing a horse. But I think a proven mare being bred to a proven stallion will produce a foal that is plenty marketable. If the mare isn't proven or doesn't have a strong pedigree then you better breed to a stallion that has both.

Location: Desert Land | The stud would have to be a total badass for me to want to breed to a grandson of something special- otherwise, why wouldn't I just breed to a son of something special?
Especially if we are referring to FG...there are so many of his sons standing, and with very proven records/producing with very reasonable stud fees. |

| Chances are if the stallion has the stats we all want to see, he will likely have the pedigree also.
The only hypothetical example I could even think of is if a horse like Honor thy frenchman were a stallion, would you breed to him or his Papa? |

Location: Kansas | I guess I need to rephrase this question......If someone bred a proven mare to an own son of said stallion's meaning could be any well known stallion....and the mare threw a colt, and they kept the colt intact....ran futurities on this colt (if colt does well and is a proven 1D futurity horse), studs horse out....would it be marketable to be that "grandson" for that stallion, in breeding terms?
It's monday, I know I'm not making any sense LOL |

Holy kamoles lol.....if I understand this correctly, the hypothetical foal is a stud and wins 1D moola.....so, therefore, is himself proven.....then yes, I believe you will have a marketable stud......however, to get to that point will take years IF all the cards fall in to place. |

Speaking of beating dead people. I was at a funeral once for a cousin of mine that commited suicide. They fixed him up good, but during the viewing his dad started beatin on him. I was standing there next to my uncle. I was very confused. Do you break up a fight with a dean man and his dad? I didn't think it would really hurt anything at this point so I just let him finish and people started to move thru the viewing line as normal as my aunt took my uncle out of the room. |

If only I knew who to contact. I'd sell them chickens for half that price...including delivery. If you find out who to contact in the secret society please let me know!
ETA: I'd even buy them one of those fancy chicken outfits!

 Can You Hear Me Now?
Location: When you hit the middle of nowhere .. Keep driving | It really depends on a lot of things (Dam side, proven, sires pedigree, conformation, etc). And no ones knows what the future holds. Who knows if sire of said stallion is the 'next FG or DTF'... And once upon a time I am sure a lot of people bred to FG because he was a son of Sunfrost in hopes of a possible stallion prospect. That being said I would try and breed the mare to the best possible son she can.
If the foal turns out well (conformationally correct, easy to work with, preforms, etc) and earns the right to keep his Astroids, I would likely allow him to do so.
