It's another. Came out to feed tonight and this was there waiting for me. And I just spent $500 at the vet on Tuesday on a different horse so of course SOMETHING was bound to happen. Already cleaned it up and I have it loosely wrapped for now because that big hunk was hanging down.
What are y'all's best methods for getting this to heal the best?

She did this before as a three year old and it heeled up horribe looking. I did everything to try to get it to heal up like it should (hydro, wonder dust, other remedies) and it still looked like poo.
And of course today was my last day of work until kids go back to school so I was going to get to ride them all every day.

Cast. My show horse did this the day I went to pick him up from the trainer. He did his lower, looked like a knife slice across the heels and it bled like there was no tomorrow. It literally looked like something was slaughtered out in the parking lot while we waited on the vet to get done with his current emergency. Mine was sound about 3-4 weeks later with the cast.

ouch! that looks pretty deep, I'd be concerned about how deep it went and if there was any additional damage. I'm sorry! paying vet bills, repair bills etc is NOT fun! It's all getting crazy expensive these days. Hugs to you

another vote for a cast. The ranch i work at had a horse do something fairly similar (he got the tendon as well) and the vet put him in a cast and he stayed in the cast for a couple months. After a few months he was healed and was given the clear to start working again and after some time, he is now back to being a 100 mile endurance horse.
