Location: Minnesota | The three on the left side of the fence are mine and the one on the right side is the neighbors. He has 5 untouched horses that his daughter "rescued" but hasn't done a thing with them. I let my three out into the big pasture last weekend and this mare hasn't left the fence line since. The other four could care less and have left her here. She folllows mine along the fence line all day and when they leave that area and go to the other side of the property she calls for them. I feel bad. You can tell this horse is never touched. I'm able to touch her nose now but can't pet her. She's real nervous of any human contact. Heres some pictures.

My husband would flip! I promised him I would only have as many horses as my trailer would hold and that's three...but I feel bad for this horse. She stands there all day. |

This horse won't even take hay from my hand yet. I can at least touch her now but I can tell she's very cautious of people. |

She did get her leg out but she sliced it up pretty good. She was holding her leg in the air so o knew she was hurt. I jumped in my truck and drove to the neighbors to tell them and apparently she is "very nasty" and will "knock you down if you turn your back to her". They said they would take care of her but I'm a bit worried. |

Its a older man and his wife who live there. These horses are his daughter's and she lives in ND. They wouldn't get her, he tried to get her to come in with grain but she wouldn't. I learned that she is also only 3 years old... |

Even more of a reason to take that "horrible, ill tempered" 3 year old off their hands...
I bet with a little TLC and a whole lot of patience, it would bring her around, and allow her to blossom into the mare she is supposed to be. |

| It is amazing what time and patience will do for a horse. It doesn't sound like the filly is mean. Sounds like they don't know much about horses and are afraid of her.
Heck-the more "untouched" she is the better in my opinion! They are easier to work with then one that has been spoiled rotten and allowed to walk all over people.
It is harder to break one of bad habits, then to teach one to trust that has not really had much done with it. Horses tend to be very trusting in nature anyways. Good luck and please keep us posted!!! Backyard horses can become something!! My first barrel horse was a backyard horse that ended up being something special! |

She's a real pretty little mover. She floats when she trots. I would guess she's not over 14.3 hh but she's probably still growing??
Maybe I could talk to the guy and see if he'd let me work with her. At least halter break her and get her used to human contact. The man brought out a bucket of grain to try and catch her and she wouldn't even eat it while he was holding the bucket.

Do it, this horse needs medical care and a loving touch. You're just the person for the job. |

| And....to make it worth your time...I would ask for a percent of the sale price for each horse. I would go as far as to ask for 50%...only because the goal would be to get them out and into good homes as soon as possible and the horses would probably not bring a lot of money if you were to place them in a short amount of time.
Just a thought! |

Location: Minnesota | I'm no horse trainer, I would never pretend to be but this horse just tugs at my heart strings a little bit. I want to do right by her. They have labeled her "nasty" and "mean" and I don't think thats fair to her. She ate out of my hand yesterday just before she got hurt and let me touch her nose. She wouldn't even eat grain out of a bucket the man was holding.
I learned that she was born on their property, they have her mom as well. Maybe something happened to her as a young filly to make her lose trust, I don't know. They do have a round pen and I think Im going to see if they will let me work with her there. |

Location: Minnesota | He also has her full brother so I'm not sure these are rescue horses. Initially that's what my dad said. He had talked to the man shortly after we moved here and I think he mixed things up. Maybe the mom was a rescue but this mare and her brother were born there. All of them are untouched. |

That's a really great question!! I didn't even think to ask. I didn't want to ask to many. I'm going to go over there and just check up on her and see how she's doing. There I go getting all attached...ugh. |

Update?? did something happen to her you put "sad update" ?!?!
Yes, the update is on the bottom of the first page I think. She got her leg caught in the barbed wire fence from pacing and running back and forth. |

I guess I expected the "sad update" to be the mare getting put down or sent to a sale. Hope you enjoy working with her - be safe and know what you are getting into with an untouched 3 year-old.

I saw her from a distance today and she looked okay. She had several cuts from the barbed wire but as far as her still holding her leg up, she isn't.
She'll pull through. |

Location: Muskogee, OK | I guess I am confused as to why this is such a bad situation for the horse? She looks to be in good condition and is in a pasture full of grass. You also say there are other horses in this pasture with her.... This is how horses are meant to live. I'd bet she could care less that she has no human interaction, she is probably just interested in your horses.
While it's not ideal that these horses are all "un-touched", they are hardly looking to be lacking care, atleast from the pictures you posted. I'd say they've got it pretty good at the moment, especially for being rescues.

I didn't say it was a bad situation. I feel bad for her that she got hurt and she seems to be scared of any human contact. She paced the fence line for a week straight and wouldnt leave my horses. They all are healthy weight wise, I never said anything about that. The only horse that I can tell that needs medical attention is the older gelding. He is blind in his right eye and the eye is sinking back into his head. The man sais they are his daughter's and she lives put of state now and he just wants them gone. The man seems nice but I watched him shoot dead all his long horns but one baby and had to watch and listen to the baby cry for days for his mom. Do I think he would shoot these horses, I don't know but these horses could be used by someone I'm sure.

He didn't want them anymore. He shot them and then the truck that picks up dead animals came and took them away.
I really doubt he would shoot these horses but who knows. |

Something smells fishy with that. |

Agreed. It sounds like the full story is not known... I would be willing to guess he had a reason. Whether it be a herd sickness or something of the sort... But who knows! |
