Think horse might have an allergic reaction because she is broke out in welts on her chest. Not sure from what. Can you give a horse human allergy pills and/or cortisone?? What other home remedies could be used before we call the vet?

Yes you can, I know dexamethasone and Benadryl are both okay to give but I'm unsure of the dosing. They can make the horse tired also just an FYI. I found a "recipe cream " on here for bites that had skin so soft, aloe, lotion and maybe something else I can't recall, but it helped. :) Good luck- call your vet and ask them the dosage if you cant find it on here

I was also told Benadryl somewhere along the lines of 6 plus pills but you should really check with your vet on the proper doasage for your horses weight

I have given around 20 cc of the children's liquid benedryl, but I would check for sure with a vet for dosage.
If you have one hiving up, you are much better off getting some dex from the vet. It will work a LOT better IME. Mine used to randomly hive up sometimes in the past.
