I haven't used it on my horse but I know the nurses use it on my dad for his pressure sores. I would use it if needed on the horses. Here's a bump for some pics.

I have seen the medical grade honey work well on human wounds that didn't respond to conventional medicine.
I wouldn't use raw honey as it can contain botulism spores, an open wound can give the toxin a route into the bloodstream, and there is a very small window to treat botulism.

It wouldn't be my first choice because they are so many great options for horses. I did however use it for my tortoise when he was mauled by a dog because our options are very limited for them. It worked well.

I used it once after being told by an older rancher wife to give it a try. The horse wasn't mine but was running on a place we were staying. She came in with her knee tore up pretty bad. I cleaned it and covered it in honey pulled the flap of skin up and wrapped her. She healed great I was pretty amazed at how well it worked. We were in the middle of nowhere and couldn't just run to town to get meds for her. I don't have pictures but it was a large wound that healed with minimal scaring. I would use it again if I was in the same situation and couldn't get anything else .

Oh interesting. ..I was told to use raw honey and only raw honey becuase the pasteurized honey kills all the good stuff in it. Im wanting to try something different becuase what I'm using now is just not working. Im currently using vetricyn one day then schreiners the next day and I'm not liking how its healing.

We use honey dressings often at my work. It works very well to get a bed of healthy granulation tissue. We usually use pasteurized honey, but I have seen specialists recommending the unpasteurized as well.
