Location: British Columbia | One of my horses has two sores, one on each side of her mouth. They are not warts, or tumor like. They look like her skin was cut in perfect circles and swelled a bit higher than the skin around it. They don't seem to hurt her, but I've never seen this before. It started with only one about two weeks ago and now the other has popped up in the last two days. I assumed cleaning them out and using rubbing alcohol on it would make it go away. Anyone seen this before? I'll try and take pictures tonight. |

Location: Mi | Have you wormed that horse recently? I have a gelding that what you decribed happens to. We couldn't pin point it for the longest time. This spring we wormed him, and within a few days he had it.

We couldn't pin point it for the longest time, had the vet look at it, they were pretty clueless to to what might cause it, but thought possibly the wormer. This spring we wormed him, and within a few days he had it.
I did actually, I can't for the life of me remember what brand I used. Probably a little before the first popped up so the timeline would work out. But why the second one? |

| Zimectrin Gold is known for causing mouth/tongue/lip ulcerations.

Location: Oklahoma | When several of mine had those mouth sores, I was told to deworm with ivermectin and that cleared it up. It could be from foxtail, sandburrs or other seed heads in your forage, vesicular stomatitis, a virus, toxic weeds . . .
Check your pasture and hay and talk with your vet.

So does it just go away on its own? Should I keep after it? What in the dewormer causes that? So strange. |

I'm not sure what causes it; I believe something in the carrying agent/paste, not the ivermectin itself.
You should use Equimax in the future - same active ingredients, without the side effects of blistering that the ZG is known for.

I'm reading through some of them now. Wish I had looked into this prior to buying that brand, I was just trying to rotate to a completely different brand this time.
I can't imagine how this affects them on the inside. |

Location: Mi | Zimectrin Gold is what we wormed with this time also and noticed it. I'm not sure if it had happened with any others or not, it only happens with this one horse and its always the same place, sometimes, on one side or the other, soemtimes on both, but always the exact location. |

Location: Conroe, TX 77304 | I was told it was a summer sore and would not go away unless you use a mixture of ivermetrin and that yellow paste stuff (can't remember name for cuts and stuff). Call the vet and that what he said, he was send some of the mixture to me. |

You should use Equimax - it's the exact same dewormer active ingredients, but does not cause sores. You may be running out of luck with your horses never having this reaction. No point in taking chances when there is another product that doesn't do this. |
