I have a gelding 10 years old. Was biggest sissy at old barn. Brought him to my house when I night four years ago. Since then he been the boss but not overly bad. Boss over two other gelding.
A month ago I brought in a new gelding and two bred mares. Since day one my gelding hates new one when they are in same pen. They are friendly over fence but out together look out. My original gelding acts like a dang stallion.. He stands as close to mares pen as possible. If I put new gelding out, he will run him down 300 yards away. He goes for blood biting him and running him.
Think I should leave him in pen next to mares so he's happy.. Or should I put him in the pen furthest away from mares and try to break this behavior a bit??

Lol. I didn't have mares for this reason... But I'm helping a friend for a while.. So now I have mares with foals and one idiot gelding who know thinks he is mack daddy.
I let the new gelding in with mares yesterday... That really ticked my guy off. He stood by fence kicking out. I shouldn't laugh but I got great joy out of seeing him so annoyed by the new gelding being with the mares... The same mares new gelding was with forever before by house!

My gelding does this. I will never own another mare as long as he lives. He goes from being the most placid, friendly guy around to being an absolute prick when there's a mare around. And he calls for them, and chases the other geldings, and is just awful.
