My regular doctor can see me until later in the day Friday. I have a poison ivy rash and can't sleep anymore. Is it appropriate to go to the Emergency Room? I of course feel very silly even contemplating this but I am close to being delirious.

I just tried Zanfel (actually the Walgreens version).  It's pricey but it worked.  It is not fun to apply but it dried mine up in a day.

I JUST posted on FB about this.   We, luckily, have a general walk in clinic I'm going to have to use...but DANG!!

I'm so frustrated!!  I have a history of Poison Ivy, but haven't seen my regular family physician since 2012, so they won't just send a Rx down to the pharmacy.   I have to actually see someone.    I know they need a paycheck, but make it off of someone who really freaking needs them!!  Not a poison ivy case!!  UGH!

Do you have a walgreens near you or any type of drug store that offers a walk in clinic? Our local grocery store chain has it's own line of walk in clinics as well. I've become more allergic to poison ivy as I get older and I understand having to go to the doctor for it. I had a hole in my leg during the last round I had of it. I went to a walk in clinic and the poor nurse looked at my leg and started scrambling around and asking if I'd had my tetanus shot lol. It only cost me $10 for the visit. I almost always have to have steroids to get rid of it now.

this was exactly what I was thinking. I don't want to go the ER but this is precariously close to my lady business and all over my legs. I feel like I'm wasting so much of a doctors time!

Last year when I got poison ivy all over my face/eye lids....I went to urgent care, and they gave me a steriod shot which helped immensly!  It was 4th of July weekend...on a saturday, and I did NOT want to go to the ER.  I'd try to find a walk in place before going to the ER...I get poison ivy easily, and that is the first time i've ever needed something for it...face is horrible!

I've been fighting it for 2 weeks.  Started on my lips in 1 spot. (I REALLY should have gone then, but was too busy, and it cleared fairly fast.)  Now it's on my arm, my stomach, and forehead and in my hairline.  It doesn't really ooze, because I'm very careful, but it does itch some.  I'm just tired of fighting it now.

Do you have a small pharmacy? I've gotten big help from home town pharmacists... They can sometimes mix up something to help until friday.

I had to take my SO in last year over Memorial Day - his eyes were swollen shut - I asked him if we REALLY needed to go? - LOL! Anymore, if I get it - I have to have steroids - absolutely nothing over the couter works for me and believe me, I have tried it all!

Bless her soul.... My mother could pass just down-wind of poison-ivy and become afflicted.... She found that the Plantain weed worked for her. Just bruise-pound several leaves into a pulp and rub it over the welts. Stops it in its tracks!! It can be found along most driveways in the midwest....

YES. I actually asked to be placed in a medically induced coma for the duration of my poison ivy.

You are absolutely RIGHT!  BUT....in my case, I don't want to rub it on my face in case I happen to have a reaction to it, but I've used it other places, like on my arms and it works!

My brother had to be medi-vac'd on a helicopter from the field when he was in the Army, he has such a bad reaction to poison ivy. My son needs steroids for it too. I'd go.

Thank you ladies! How awesome are those minute clinics at the CVS stores! I feel so much better going there for something like that! was in and out in 30 minutes with a few laughs from the nice doctor something I really needed!

They aren't "trying to make their paycheck" off you. It's a medicolegal issue. You don't legally have a doctor-patient relationship if it's been over a year since you were seen. That's a standard policy for pretty much any doctors office.

Urgent cares and minor emergency clinics are great for this sort of thing. But yes, I see tons of people in the ER for poison ivy when I'm working weekend shifts. If you can't be seen anywhere else that's better than suffering. Or spreading it all over yourself. You just might have to wait awhile.

Yep. I get into Chiggers! I'm good at avoiding poison ivy but darn chiggers, or red bugs as my BF calls them.. I always find them. talk about miserable.
