Location: Durango CO | A horse that I loved dearly died in a very tragic trailer wreck last night. I sold this horse to a friend and she was driving back from Vegas when she had come to a complete stop due to a traffic accident uphead of her when she was rear ended by another truck hauling horses. The driver that hit my friends trailer was going an estimated 83 mph with no attempt to stop. My dear horse died, but unfortunately not instantly. It was mentioned that the driver was texting and that caused the accident. My friends daughter is hospitalized and the driver of the other vehicle survived. The BBR Facebook page has shared pics but they are very graphic. Please keep the following things in mind. 1) pay attention to the road ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT (this happened just before dark) 2) do not go 85 freaking miles per hour on the interstate! I believe the speed limit on the road these vehicles were traveling on was 75 mph (I think) but even then I do not ever feel it is safe to travel that fast while hauling anything! I do not know the actual reason why the accident happened but the way this horse had to pass was devastating. My friend was hauling a 2nd horse that survived but had to be cut free and had to walk over the horse that died in order to get out. He required a lot of stitches but was drinking water and eating a little hay last I knew. Please pray for all involved, even those at fault. Even tho this accident cld have and shld have been prevented I am sure they feel guilty enough and do not need to be attacked. I do not know if my friend will be going after them legally or not. Please just be in the moment when you drive! |

Location: Where ever there's sunshine! | There was another wreck yesterday where a driver ran a Stop sign and hit a trailer loaded down. One horse sustained a broken leg and had to be put down. I don't understand why driving is so difficult for some people. I hate it for all involved. Prayers and hugs to your friends. |

I know. I live in Sealy I don't mind driving hours any direction to a race EXCEPT east across Houston. Crazy inconsiderate drivers scare me to death. |

Another thing that drives me crazy is people in small cars who cut you off. As if I could stop if a deer jumped out when we have 5 feet between us! |

Location: In a happy place | This is so tragic. What are people thinking? There was an eighteen year old girl killed this way neare where I used to live. It devastated so many lives. The girl that was killed had a brother that worked with the girl that was texting and hit his sister. He could not keep working there and had to quit his job. When the girl texting hit the 18 year old she pushed her into an 18 wheeler hauling milk. The driver of the truck had to quit his job because he said every time he closed his eyes he could see the girls face just before she was hammered into his truck. I am so sorry for this poor horse and the lady. Prayers for all involved in this accident. |

| This just breaks my heart!!!! Prayers for you and the owners of these horses. Obviously hindsight is always 20/20 and if said person was texting, then it wouldnt have mattered but I usually always put my hazards on if I am stopped in the roadway simply because people DONT may attention and I hope that the flashing will be an additional alert for upcoming drivers. |

Location: SE Oklahoma | This breaks my heart. My friend nailed a car because she pulled right out in front of her, loaded with three horses and she couldn't stop. she was only going 35-40mph but it sent that car spinning, everyone was alright, did alot of damage to the car but just bent the front license plate on her truck. Everyone was okay just shook up. My good horse was in an accident that a trailer flipped over, before I got him. I had the hardest time getting him over his fear of the trailer after that. Sending prayers that way. People don't pay attention, my dad drives a log truck and people pull out in front of him all the time.

| I'm so sorry.
This is a reminder for why I do what I do (traffic enforcement). Sorry, I don't cut breaks to speeders or distracted drivers just because they're hauling horses. I will write ESPECIALLY if they are hauling. You know the dangers, you know the cost. They chose to take the action, and I do everything I can to stop it. |

| The guy obviously did not try to stop. Many of the highways in TX are 75 now but 70 is fast enough for this girl. Even the big trucks run about 70. Personally, I like myself well enough not to text and drive. Prayers for everyone. |

Location: Online | Yet some states like Utah have increased the interstate speeds to 80 mph, Idaho is proposing it, along with raising two lane highway to 70. That is ridiculous. If the speed limit is 80, they will go 85. I have been guilty of those speeds, but I am 100% focused on the road, (which is no excuse for the speed). Most of the time I set the cruise at 70 to conserve fuel, but that's just about as dangerous as going 80, people are crazy.
This story is just so sad, I feel so bad for the ladies who were rear ended. It was completely preventable. Time and time again I see people who drive like they are invincible. I just hope lessons were learned. |

Location: Heart of Texas | My thoughts and prayers to everyone involved. Especially the second driver. I cannot imagine the turmoil they must be going through. We all make mistakes, this could've happened to a lot of people. I was wretched with guilt when I rear ended a car doing 15 mph one day, I cannot imagine the 2nd driver. It would destroy me. |

| So sorry for all parties involved. A staunch reminder to not text and drive. Has there been a statement from the guy who caused the wreck? I do hope he shows remorse. I can't imagine hauling at 70 mph just becuase I could. Mostly for my mileage I rarely pull faster than 60 mph, people can go around me. Such a tragic loss. Big hugs and prayers. |

| We were pulling a trailer once in new mexico and I saw a car from way way back at a stop sign and wondered why he was just sitting there but when we got to him he pulled out and thinking he was going in same direction we got in opposite lane to pass but his intention was to cross the road so we went off the road and he just stayed in middle of road like he was lost but I've noticed that since I moved to new Mexico most can't drive so I really have to watch out for them. |

| People need to realize a speed limit is simply that....a limit. It doesn't require drivers to go that fast. It is ashamed that those of us that choose to go the limit, or slower, are in the most danger.
I don't think it would help in this situation, but it is a good example of why it is a benefit to buy a trailer bigger than what you need. When I haul 1 horse in a 3 horse trailer, they are going to be in the front stall by the escape door.
Turn your cell phones off and enjoy what used to be life so you don't take someone else's. |

Location: Durango CO | My friend is doing well and just has a huge bruise on her arm. Her daughter got out of the hospital a day or two after the accident but ended up going right back in for a shoulder dislocation. The horse that was injured is stitched up and is getting hydrotherapy and lots of rest. He is doing well for how many stitches he has along his shoulder. I do not have any other info I the person at fault. |

| The driver at fault for the crash should be held financially responsible for the replacement cost of the deceased horse and ALL rehab/vet bills for the injured horse. |

| I saw this on facebook too - and seriously, I immediately got sick to my stomach. Just so preventable. I always wonder and feel so sorry for the horses that even survive things like this. Hopefully they have a make-up that allows them to eventually forget it completely. Such a preventable tragedy!!! What is wrong with people... put your damn phones down while you're driving. |
