i was wondering about a rat terrier type dog. any dog would need to be an outdoor dog type and not a roaming type. i have two now that do a great job with critter patrol.... there are no coons, possems, or rats around but they have not shown adeptness on snake patrol.

My sister had a Terrier mix that died fighting a rattle snake. She said she jumped in front of my sister and went after it. It bit her and by the time she got her to the vet, it was too late. And, that wasn't the first snake she had tangled with either.....so, I'm guessing a Terrier is an excellent choice lol. |

She's 4 months old and has killed one already. Granted it was only about 1 1/2 feet and a grass snake, but she sure loved hauling her snake around. I had to take it away from her and dump it, because just throwing it in the back ditch didn't work......she went in after it.

Our cattle dog hasn't had to kill a snake but has killed everything else including amarillos, skunks, squirrels, scorpions and wasps. |

You just made me laugh and remember that we had a weenie dog when I was younger named, Rat Face! She loved centipedes!!! And, no frog was safe! She loved to pile her frogs up and lay on top of them for some strange reason.... |

all snakes must die in lululand... good bad or other! so a shelter has chi weenie pups for adoption.... or an older terrier.... hummm note to self do not mention on shelter adoption that i need an outdoor dog for snake killing... hope they dont want to come for an inpection visit after adoption... lol |

All snakes must die in my little world too. I have a heeler and 2 Catahoulas. The heeler will find them, bark at them annoyingly and pick at them until the male Houla comes over and finishes them off by shaking the bejeeeezus out of them. I love that dog. He's just too lazy to go find them so it takes team work. |

Cold hands and Warm Heart

Hungarian Midget Woman
Location: Midwest | We have one we have been trying to find a home for (for like 2 years, just haven't put much effort into it LOL), but he's never killed snakes- he is a rabbit MACHINE though. My husband once saw him get two in a matter of minutes. He does roam. We have a fenced in yard, but I think he would respond to an e-collar training situation. He's about 3 and neutered. Lab/chow/? mix. Very sweet and tolerant. Gets along with cats and dogs. I'm in Indiana too, but it doesn't seem like he's what you are looking for.
