My horse tore his collateral ligament 6 months ago, and we went back to the vet today, and it has barely healed. We go to BVEH Navasota. The vet told us that our only two options now were to either do surgery to cut the ligament, or nerve him. If we cut the ligament, the vet told us after a couple months rest he should be 100% sound and that it wouldn't affect him at all. We definitely don't want to nerve him if we don't have to. Have any of y'all had experience with cutting a ligament? The vet seemed very adamant that this was the way to go.

I have no experience doing that in the coffin joint, but cutting the medial collateral ligament on horses who have stifles that lock has been done for a long time.

I had bilateral crushed collateral ligaments, my vet injected stem cells in, within a month he was sound, no evidence the injury ever happened.

I would suggest speaking to your vet about stem cells if you already haven't
