I bought my stepdaughter a used Caldwell Maxed Out saddle. I am a little confused as to where the saddle should sit. I spoke to Charon and she tried to describe to me where to place it according to the mares anatomy, using the front concho as a reference. I think I may have brain block, because the spot on the shoulder that I am picturing seems a little too far up. The saddle appears to be running uphill in that position. When you pull it back some, it levels out. When feeling for the tree under the saddle, it seems to have relatively equal pressure all the way down the bars. I would love to hear any advice and would LOVE to see photos of horses properly saddled with Caldwell saddles. I understand that every horse's shoulder angle is different and that it will affect the placement, but I think it would be a good learning tool for me to look at a few.
I thought I had explored the website thoroughly, by I will definitely look again. I did see the photo of the paint horse that had been drawn on. There is a circled x that says "front of saddle goes here." Is that where the edge of the skirt should be or is that where the concho should be?
Send Charon a picture with the saddle on and she will mark it up with pen and send it back if you have a fax machine. (I can't remember if they said they have a scanner, but if you both have that...it will work that way, too.)
