| I have a running bred mare but nothing special on her papers. I would like to breed to something that either runs barrels or is bred to.(meaning i would prefer not strait race lines). When I say 1250 it has to include booking fees and possibly the first shipment of semen free... any suggestions? |

If that's your budget, I would suggest you find a stallion close to you that you can take the mare to. Shipping semen doesn't just cost for the shipping, there's all your vet work too. That can add up fast. I figure with a modestly priced vet and $250-300 per shipment you're looking at at least $500-600 per cycle. And to give it a fair try, you have to be able to ship more than once or twice if necessary. If you get her in foal on the first try, then YAY! But that doesn't happen all the time. Plan for the worst and hope for the best.
Where with a close stallion and live cover (some people still do live cover) you might get lucky and only have the fee, the board and a preg check. Some mares actually do get pregnant really quickly with the old fashioned way of breeding.  |

I have a few large stallion stations close to me, and that's the most cost saving way to breed. They do AI, but there is no shipping fee, and the vet is on the premises. So my answer is, it depends on where you are.

| By the time that you add the shipping fees etc you may have to pay another $500. Guys Easy Jet includes the first shipment and so the stud fee is what you pay. Check out his pedigree, very nice. If you have questions call Sally. I found her fees to be the most reasonable.

| I live in the middle of nowhere lol I bred her already this year and the closest decent stallion I could find was an hour and a half and had to take her 3 times to AI, he didnt do live cover. I would love to do it the old fashioned way but there really isnt anyone close that have nice studs. I live in South Arkansas if anyone has any close ideas. . . |

I like him, but hes got a little too much run for this particular mare. I have a colt out of her and he had a cow bred sire and is kinda free running and high energy, Im afraid too much run will give me a no turn. . . |

I got a breeding to Awesome Chrome (whose fee is normally 1000) for $300 this last year, with the $300 shipping I paid it came out to $600. I did have to pay vet stuff too (about $260). There will probably be a post about them towards the end of the year/beginning of next year too. The stallion auctions always have a deadline (usually Feb 1 or so). |

Location: Way up North | I have to chime in for A Dash of Color. Granted he is straight race lines but the lines have made plenty of barrel horses too. His owners do all the collecting and shipping and are awesome to work with! I have two get by him and both are really fancy and great to be around. |

| If you are wanting live cover, I am in SE Kansas. Not too far from you. My stud is Jets Last Payday out of Jet's Payday and by Regional Champion(dam of View This Jet and also is a maternal sister to Rocket Wrangler). He is producing tremendous babies. I will have some running in futurities in 2015. They are bred to be barrel horses. That's what they are!! He is listed on here. |

I had bred a mare to him, but sold the mare. I am going to buy a baby of his next year (or I hope! Unless someone gets to it first), the dam of said future baby is double first down dash!
Can't ride papers, but holy cow! Get the right start and training and I'm hoping it would take me far! Lol.

I had a nice experience with LA Center for Equine Reproduction this year and feel like they would make it easier for me to collect and ship, so that's why I'm considering a few outside breedings now.

The recommendations I can make are Reds Western Native, Raymond Flowers had a nice Jet of Honor stud, Libby Hurley has a nice Firewater Flit stud that is out of a foundation mare (Firewater Fiasco is the stud) , there is also a stud by the name of Firewater Joe Bear that is listed on BHW, YQ Frenchmans Fly is a gorgeous gray in Mississippi. In Mississippi you also have Kelly Quarter horses that have Flit to Kill and one other stud.
If I think of any more I will post them. |

| Sorry it took me so long but here is the pedigree. She is appendix bred. The reason I would like a nice stud to breed to is I have a colt out of this mare that I love! I bought him when he was weaned and he is 5 now and I think will make a nice 1d/2d horse(when finished). He is a great grandson of doc bar and that is the only good horse on his papers (close) so I think if I breed to something nice I can get a really nice colt. I bought this mare only because I like my colt so much I wanted another one.

There is a Frenchmans Guy stud called The Guys A Surfer who was really impressive when I saw him in Az. last winter. He is a solid 1D horse, super super minded, great bone, pretty, and he is also a pro level rope horse. He is at $1000 also. |

Rodeo was a great tie-down horse, but has produced many barrel horses out of cow bred mares. Plus he is a pretty roan.

| I bred my mare to Frostburns. A lesson I learned this year was the stud fee is the least of your worries. I have $2800 in the mare right now. I had to ship on her twice. $1000 stud fee then $350 to ship the first time, $250 the 2nd. $694 to the first vet who didn't get her in foal then treated me like I was beneath him for asking questions. $524 to the 2nd vet who is amazing and so far she is pregnant. Checking for a heart beat tonight!!
So keep in mind that the stud fee is the least of your worries. I will be better prepared next year. Hopefully it will only take 1 shot... Not sure why she didn't take the first time. I think the stress of staying in the enclosed stalls had something to do with it. At the other vets she was in an outdoor run and buddied up with the mare next to her. |

+ 1,000 on Otro Fracaso. I have one of his three year olds, and he's out of a hot mare - the quietest, easiest three year old I've ever been around. Lyndee just won the Futurity, Senior Division, AND 4th in 1D at the Harold Riva Memorial in Salinas last weekend on one. He throws consistent good babies. I have one on the way, with all the winners he's produced now I'd raise his fee if he were mine, so I wanted to jump on the train while I still can! |
