| I'm curious to know everyone's opinion on paints barrel racing. You never really see many wpra girls running paints (I knew they're are some but majority of the time I haven't seen many ) and I definetly haven't seen many at the nfr. |

But, people have focused more on QH lines hence why the WPRA girls run them. They are just more proven as well as breeders focused more on them... But if someone decided to take paints cross them with FG, FWF, Dinero etc. And start making some paint own daughters of and breeding this to other proven lines (DTF, FDD, OTMR etc) you'd get some girls running paints! :P

Location: Missouri | This topic has been discussed multiple times on here. Either you like them or you don't. But, they are out there.
If you look at statistics, there are only a fraction of the number of registered APHA horses as AQHA. And, of that small number of APHA, there are even less that are colored.
So, the the smaller number of "paint" horses doesn't indicate that they are any less successful, imo. |

| AQHA has over 5 million, and APHA has just over 1 million registered. Of course you'll see more Quarters than paints. Plus, you may be seeing solid paints and never know it. The same critiques and bias used to be focused on palominos, but that's not the case anymore as they have found more and more fans through good breeding. The thought that certain color breeds are inferior is outdated - and I'm pretty dang old school. |

| Theres a rookie right now that i just read an article on thats doing really well on her paint. I think paints are just less focused on. A lot of the BIG barrel producing ranches have Qh. I personally love paints and hope to own one oneday.
ETA we have some wicked fast paints up here

| Paint horses are quarter horses with spots, we look at their conformation which comes first then breeding/color ~ and I agree you either like them or you dont. I ride nothing but paint horses and that is just my preference. I dont want to ride a sorrel horse, everyone seems to have one. My horses constantly place in the 1/2D so I know the color is no factor. However, they do have good old QH foundation bloodlines. This day and age most of them do so I think people need to educate themselves if they do not know the bloodlines. Also a horse that has the conformation to run - no matter the color is going to have speed. Alot of their success depends solely on the person who trains and rides them. There are not as many paints as there are sorrels, bays, etc. so you will see more solid horses as stated above with the numbers in registry's.
There are NFR girls or girls currently with a card that do have solid paints and also a few spotted ones going.... probably more solids than you know.
I dont mind riding a fast and pretty horse...... so ride what makes you happy. |

Location: Way up North | There are already a lot of really nice ones out there (not as many as AQHA) but you are going to see more and more of them as breeders have been doing a great job of adding in those popular race and barrel lines people look for, it just takes time for them to grow up and start competing. There are lots of SPB out there running successfully inculding a few NFR horses, you just don't know it because they aren't loud colored and obvious. |

Location: Idaho | Ive never been a fan of flashy paints for barrel horses. They generally all run the same in my eyes, solid pattern but not very fast. Ive seen some nice rope horses. Now thats not to say i havent seen some impressive barrel paints. Few and far between, i think. Ive also noticed that usually the really fast ones are more solid color with small amounts of white. Ive also seen a lot of breeding stock paints that can do it. Thats totally my opinion. Im just not a fan not that they are bad horses or there arent great ones out there, im just not into them :) |

Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | Id run a paint if I came across one when I was looking. I personally think paints are pretty cool. If it works good then I don't see why it matters. I have a large paint pony for my nephew that I'm gonna start working on barrels here in the next year for him and I think she will do pretty good. She's got the mind, build and speed for it. |

I did not know he was a paint! I usualy look at all the nfr pedigree s
And that kinda proves one of my thoughts. I really think theres more paints out there running than one thinks, they dont all have spots and the ones without spots get figured as quarter horses. Yes there's a majority of quarter horses but I bet theres more paints than one would think. |

| These types of posts bother me.... The reason is there are more "paints" out there running then you think. Many arent even "painted". They are breeding stock and you wouldnt know they were a "paint" unless someone told you. |

Yes, Harley is AWESOME! However, I have been fortunate enough to ride at least 12 horses out of Sy, his sire and they could all fly and were exceptionally smart even when crossed with halter bred mares. I will agree with mare power, but that big paint stud can bring tears to your eyes he is so screaming fast. Just a little personal insight....? Me some Scenic Symbol horses. |

This lady (who is a friend) rides mainly paints. They all are well marked and they all can run. She use to own Latte if that shows you the caliber of horses that she has. If you think that the flashy ones have a good pattern and no speed check this out. 2nd out of 711 riders does not classify this paint as slow. I think you will be seeing this boy with a pro rodeo girl VERY soon.

I'm not sure what to make of your critique. Is it that Harley is mostly QH? (My gray overo mare has less paint lines than Harley does) or is it that Leann said his sire was partly TB? Having been GROSSLY misquoted in print by various media outlets myself, I'd put my $$ on the fact that Leann is quite aware of her horse's breeding and the reporter had potatoes in his/her ears. |

Location: In a happy place | I remember seeing pictures of Harley's sire and he was a Tobiano. And yes Harley's mother is from the Streakin Six line. If I remember correctly she had six own daughters of Streakin Six she was breeding to her paint stud.

Breeze Bar (qtr) by Three Bars wasTB along with Precentage, Myrtle Dee, Luke MCLuke and Midway in the line on top. That's what she is quoting for TB in his line, but Harley should be reg APHA and shown in ABP as paint not qrt. |

| Bounding thru was the tb line crossed on paint. This cross made several super nice horses like boundin hut bars and flash thru bars. I have a grandaughter of Flash thru bars that I really like. That top side is actually pretty impressive in the paint world. |
