Experiences with using Thermal Imaging to help find an 'issue' with your horse?

I think it is a start to pin point some issues.  I've done it and it was helpful.

My vet used this as kind of a starting point for a general lameness exam before doing X-rays and watching him move. It was accurate and pretty neat!

I had big success with it!

my gelding wasnt turning his first like i knew he could, then he started rearing, only sometimes!

took him up to the vet, took xrays and the whole nine yards, came out clean. Chrio, New saddle, a year off from barrels, took him back to the vets, still nothing.

got the thermal imaging done, showed some imbalances in his heels (got that fixed) and his hocks were inflamed. Took him back to the vets, still wasnt showing any signs of sore hocks but we injected.

Hasnt done it since and hes feeling like a new horse!

Thank you all for the input. Looking forward to hearing more. I'm about to pull my hair out after numerous vets/xrays/injections/ so just looking into other 'techniques' that are out there these days

My vet did it the other day. Just to prove his suspicions. His hocks were inflamed and he had slight inflammation in his front right. Very neat experience for sure! He also proved me wrong when I said it was his knee bothering him on the front end lol!!

Maybe it depends on the issue, but not super helpful in my experience.

It will show the area of inflammation...........then the vet has to go from there.  Years ago had a horse who would only take a lame step occasionally, but not running right.  X rays showed nothing........did the thermal imagery and saw red in the rear cannon..........went back to vet and xrayed at an oblique angle and saw a slightly dangling splint bone.  It had a small break, and the bottom of the splint was moving around.  Removed the  dangling part of the splint and back in business .    No amt of time off would have fixed it, and it certainly did not show up on lateral or ap xrays

We had good results with it several years ago. Had a horse come up three legged.  Couldn't find anything, blocked him from foot to shoulder. Thermal Image done and found the problem.  He had managed to break 2 ribs.
