We are turning a shed into an indoor arena.  It has a dirt floor that is packed fairly hard.  Has anyone done this before? I could use some pointers as to how to create good ground in it.

Should i I try and rip up the hard current dirt or build new ground on top of it?? Sand or a mixture of something??

I found MAG flakes online... Do they work as good as claimed??

Any any tips would be much appreciated!!!
Thanks!

I had a 60x100 indoor arena with open sides that started as hard dirt ground...too hard and slick so I disked it to about 4 inches. Dust was a nightmare no matter how much you watered. I packed it back down and put about 4 inches of sand in it...dust still UNbearable unless you watered it every day and it took a LOT of water. I found myself avoiding riding in there due to the hassle of having to water so much or dealing with the dust if I didn't water enough so we concreted the whole barn and now use it for farm equipment storage, garage, and trailer parking. I don't regret it for a minute. I'd definitely look into some of the artificial footing or some of the additives to keep the dust down and and overhead sprinkler system.
