I have an older gelding who I have a terrible time hitting the vein on to give anything. Giving him his legend shots is a task that is getting harder and harder every time. My vet even has a hard time and goes for the one in is leg when sedating for injections. Anyone have any tips or tricks? I can use the one in his leg but its just hard to give his legend that way by myself.

Close your eyes and do it by feel, maybe go up a little higher on the neck. I have one horse that I have to do it by feel and not sight, works everytime first stick.

If the vet is having that much trouble the veins probably have a lot of scar tissue around them from previous injections that have irritated the area and there isn't much you can do about that.

When I gave my older mare Legend it was given IM - and it worked well. Just a thought.
Can you give Hytryl IM? I'm changing the name of the thread to ask this question because if you can my problem is solved. I asked my local vet we use for small things and he didn't recommend that we do..

Legend says on the bottle IV only....Adequan is IM....are you sure you were giving Legend? My vet says no way give Legend IM....
Thats what I was told as well. He said he saw no way the meds could actually get where they were supposed to go and he did not know what the injection would do in the muscle tissue. But he admits he is not up on the latest equine meds and we only use him for small things.
