My 3 yr old is out on pasture with another gelding. I am not able to ride him this year, so he's been just enjoying being a horse since about may. Last night I noticed his hind fetlocks mainly the left was slightly swollen (maybe that's what they call stocked up?). The only thing I have on hand is sore no more gel, so I rubbed that all over and no foam - so no heat? right? Am I doing right my applying sore no more? or should I try to get something else and use on it? Its hot out about 100 degrees, we've had a good 2 weeks of heat and humity so the horses stand around all day and then they run and buck and play at night or in the early mornings. Maybe he twisted somthing? He doesn't seem lame and doesn't have a history or lameness.

Is your pasture brushhogged, cut short? If not, Dew poisoning. I have 2 right now really bad from it, we didn't put our hay up and with this heavy dew, it stays int he grass and gets poisonous on their legs. Feel arround on them and see if they have any little scabby or rough spots. Preperation H ointment is the best for it.

I had one stock up a few years ago in the pasture because it was so hot and humid that she wasn't moving around. After the weather broke a little, she was fine.

there isn't much grass left out there now and of course lots of weeds. we live near a river so its mostly gravel/sand type soil. They get as much hay as they want but they still go out and graze; what they can find to eat i don't know lol. as of last night swelling is better but still there. still no foam with the sore no more, so no heat. no signs of lameness that I can tell... strange, sure could be from a weed or who knows, there are pine, oak and fir trees out there too.
