Location: Loma Linda, CA | I think that the most important aspect for lessons is to keep it safe first and foremost and then go from there.
They need to know how to groom, tack and clean feet (or if they are just little kids at least brush the legs or something lol). And for fun I was taught the body parts of the horse, parts of the saddle/bridle and quizzed on it often.
Confidence is gonna be the biggest thing, but the best thing anyone ever did for me was had me hold on to the bit in the bridle and they controlled reins behind me and gave me an example of what a horse feels so I didn't pull on their face like I instinctively wanted to when I first started to learn!
Start with balancing at a walk, then trot (post & sitting) then the lope. Then get into the intrinsics of riding (proper hands, feet, body, how to do fancier moves etc).
Everyone is gonna be different on what they teach and how they want to teach! This is basically the format I learned. |
