I bought a horse in Wyoming and need to get it to Canada. It doesn't currently have a coggins or health papers, is that all I need? How long will it take to get those? I know crossing the border can be a hassle!

The horse will also have a brand inspection if it is in Wyoming. You will probably have to have it transfered to you. I am not sure what the rules are in Canada on brand inspections.
You should have the health and coggins back within a week unless you put a rush on it.

To enter into Canada you need a health and current coggins (Coggins within six months). You'll also need a brand inspection of it's got a brand. It's simply the brand inspector comes and just transfers the brand as moving out of state.
Keep in mind that if you purchase a gelding they are taxable imports at the border. Mares and stallions (breeding stock) and commercial imports are GST charged only. Also horses from Texas, New Mexico and Florida or horses that have traveled through these states recently require special requests for entry.
Just keep that in mind when budgeting your costs. If you have more questions PM me.
