Location: Peg-Leg Julia Grimm | Corn is the heaviest of the 3. Barley is next, then oats. I would mix by weight. Barley and oats one part each. Corn at half the other 2. |

| Oh! You are looking more for the mixture ratio. I mix 2 bags of oats, 1 bag of barley and half a bag of corn in a trash can and then feed 1 scoop of that in the morning and evening.

| To those who mix your own COB.....do you add your loose minerals into the mix in the barrel/trash can, etc or just add it in the scoop each time as you feed? I've had a problem with my minerals wanting to settle to the bottom of the barrel when I've mixed mine before..... |

I have a friend that uses the oats with molassas then the minerals "stick" to the oats better. |

| This is a little different than what you're asking, but I use 50% oats, 25% barley, and 25% beet pulp. I add Liquid 707 for vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. I call it my generic Summer Heat--for about half the price. |

| Not trying to steal the thread, but please tell me about some of the results/benefits of feeding a COB mix. I have never known anyone that does this but it does appeal to me, as you know exactly what you are feeding. For the mix with beet pulp, do you feed it dry or soak it? I've been trying to do some research on google but am not having much luck...I must not be a good googler. |

I put a little water in it for the Forco I feed to stick to, but the pulp is pretty well shredded and at only 25% of a coffee can or so, I don't worry about soaking it. I like feeding it because it's clean, the ingredients are always the same, there is no molasses, and I'm not paying for any fillers. And by fortifying it myself, I can feed as much or as little grain as needed and they are still getting the vit/min they need. A real easy keeper might get just a few handfuls of grain, to put the Forco and vit/min supplement on. |

This ^^^ is why I feed it. I feed the unfortified real grains so I can see if there is any debris or foreign materials in it. It's dry so there shouldn't be any mold promoting ingredients. It's consistant in quality and I can feed as much or as little as I need for the animals I'm feeding. I topdress with a local vit/mineral supplement in the amount I want. I've been feeding this way for over a decade without change and I have healthy, shiney round horses. Mares w/foals get 4-5#/day, easy keepers early pregnancy get 1#/day, harder keepers get 2#/day. Late pregnancy mares get 2-3#/day. |

This makes a lot of sense...thank you Jenagarwood. You had me sold at "no fillers" and "no molasses" and "ingredients never change" Thanks for adding this. |
