I need some assistance from those more techy than myself! bought the new samsung galaxy s5 last monday night (so not even a full week ago) and have already used over 1gb of data!! 1st problem was using Chrome to go on FB and BHW - apparently that's a no because you need to download the app and go to sites that way to save on data. Ok I fixed that. I still seem to be using data up at an insane rate!! They say 2GB is good for the average person's use and at the rate mine is going I'd need like 5 or 6 GB a month and I have seriously only used the FB app since mid last week.
I noticed this morning the million apps that came pre-installed were updating...that can't be good.
I also connected to my employers wifi today to at least not use data during the day today.

does everyone just seriously keep connected to wi-fi - that seems to be one answer. I'm just trying to get a few real-world experiences before I go into VErizon and my head explodes on them

I just got the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and there's more on the dang phone than anyone person needs. I am connected to wi-fi at home and at work so I don't use hardly any data at all. May be the thing you need to do.

make sure your wifi is on and automatically connects.. when your not in range of wifi you will use data.. a fast fix is turn data off.. so it only works if wifi is connected.. the apps I mean...i went to verizon with same issue and 3 hours later with stupid questions i understood it all and i think the salemen quit his job.. at night do same.. until you figure it all out.. your phone will use data updating, running yahoo mail or emails and when facebook is signed in.. but if you have wifi it wont cost you GB
if you dont it will and will run them up and all night.. turn data to off mode at night if no wifi.. that way it wont run all night and use them. I stay connected off and on wifi and alot of times not.. during the day.. and stay logged in to mail and faceook and only use about 2 gb month..

I have my stuff set to only update manually. For instance, I have to refresh my email manually, it won't automatically "go out" and retrieve new messages. Same for updating my apps. I get a notification that some of my apps need updating, but they'll only connect to the network and update when I prompt it. That way I can be connected to wi-fi if I need to. I don't want my phone periodically connecting to the network to find updates and use up data on its own.
ETA: I don't connect to wi-fi every day unless I'm getting close to the end of my billing cycle and my data is almost used up. Also, make sure you periodically completely close out all the apps so they're not running in the background. On mine, I just hold down the home button and a list of recent apps pops up and I clear them off.

thanks guys. appreciate the responses. Went to verizon on my lunch break ( entered the store like this...Left the store like this...) I swear once they sell you the phone they have NO desire to help you with it.
Needless to say I was finally told to "call customer service" and THAT girl was actually friendly and understanding.
THIS is why I keep my phones for like 6 years at a time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
