So I am so not an all organic, all natural, or health fanatic, but my SIL gave a class on essential oils last night and they should so beneficial for both humans and animals.  I ordered quite a few and am looking forward to getting started.  Most excited about the Frankensince for migranes and an oil blend for fly spray ($9 is supposed to make 3 to 4 gallons!), and a breath blend for my colt with the chronic cough.  Anybody using essential oils?  What are some of your go to oils and unusual ways you are using them.

I have a few! Am ordering more, my favorite is the Relief (roll on) helps cool the muscles and feels great if you (or your horse) are sore. I also like Thieves!

I use the Doterra Oil. I started with ordering the physicians kit. I love them!!!

I use a drop of Frankisense on the roof of my mouth and deep blue on my temples when I get a migraine. I diffuse the on guard in my home to kill all the germs my young one brings home from daycare.

If you have allergies the peppermint, lemon and lavender in the capsules is great for allergies. I also mix a few drops of frankinsense with coconut oil for my nightly facial moisturizer.

Many of my friends are having huge success with Young Living Essential oils on their horses and themselves.

I like to smell peppermint and lemon oil when I'm at work.  Keeps me awake and helps for headaches.  I'm gettting rain drop therapy on my crippled horse in a  few days.  She has some structural issues...  I put Valor oil on her back for the past few days and she seemed to have liked that a lot....  Her muscles seem more relaxed...

Lavendar for example.  Young Living Oils also some blends for that.  Like everything, works great on some and not so great on others.   You would have to try and see what your horse likes.

There were several calming oils we takled about yesterday, although they elude me right now.  My SIL is DoTerra rep so those are the ones I am familiar with.  I do believe bergamont is a good calming oil, as well as lavendar.

I take 2 drops of Young Livings peppermint in my yogurt everyday to help with my severe heartburn.  My absolute favorite that I cannot live without is the R.C. blend?  I defuse it when I sleep and it keeps me from being stuffed up and lets me sleep all night.

I have the grocery store brand, cheap peppermint oil and put a drop on a cracker when I have a stomach ache.  Tastes nasty but works.

I mix basil and peppermint in coconut oil for my sinuses and it helps a lot. Lavender on bug bites takes the sting out really fast and is good on cuts and scratches. Colloidal silver is also excellent on burns and cuts. I am new to the oils, too. My horse holds his tension in his mouth and poll so i have started putting a drop of valor on his poll. That and some stretches and mouth massage are helping him.

I have been using lemon oil on my mare with kidney stones, have to be careful that she doesn't spill any on her lips as the first time I used it on her she got a little of the herb mix on her lips and she got a sunburn, has never had a sunburn on her lips before so I can only imagine its from the lemon oil. Also added Zendrorine which is a mixture and is a detoxifying oil blend. I had written in our kidney journey post about her reaction to the Frankinsense (still can't seem to spell that right...) and had decide not to use it because of her reaction, biting her sides, trying to pull her over reach boots off. Told the naturalist that I get the herbs from about it the other day and she said if CC reacted favorably to the smell of it but then reacted the way I had described to her that she felt that meant she actually really need that particular essential oil.
These are new to me, any thoughts on this?

I have been told if you really need a particular herb or oil you may experience a "healing crisis" much like a fever will spike right before it goes down. Also when you use a detox you will feel worse before you feel better. My horses on a detox program had loose stools for a couple days and were a little draggy but then perked up and firmed up after a couple of days. They definitely benefited from the detox in the end.

I have also been told that.

As far as the Lemom..According to my book it says, "Citrus oils should not be applied to the skin that will be exposed to direct sunlight or ultraviolet light within 72 hours."

I am a doTerra user .... LOVE the ones I've tried so far.  I have been diagnosed w/a very serious lung ailment and their Breathe is a literal lifesaver for me.  I also use other of their oils for different things - digestion, allergies, soreness, bruises, etc.
Solid Foundation needs to come on here w/her story/pics of her mare that was injured and her treatment with doTerra oils.

I've been told that DoTerra uses some synthetics in their oils and Living Young is all pure. Living Young grows all of their own plants to make their oils. A friend of mine went out west and actually helped with a harvest of one of their plants. They have fields all over the world.

Living Young began in 1993 while Doterra started in 2008.

Also Young Living Essential Oils has a book that tells you everything you need to know how to use the oils.
I have refrained from posting on here because I know there are many that believe these oils are a hoax.
Take it for what it is worth but here goes.
When I was diagnosed with BC there was a 2 month period from diagnosis till they did the surgery.  I order the Ninja Red juice and Frankinsence oil.  I put 4 to 5 drops in the Ninja Red and drank it 4 times a day.  In that period of time the tumor shrank from 3 1/2 centimeters to 2 1/2 centimeters.  Take it for what it is worth.
Also when my stud cut his leg so severely by getting cast Dr. Tanner couldn't believe how fast he was healing.  I used V6 oil with cypress and lemongrass.
The oils have served me well other times too.

Not true on the synthetics in the doTerra - that was something LY started some time back & there was a lawsuit.  As far as I know, both are pure oils ... I know the doterra has nothing synthetic & are 100% pure.
No matter what brand you use, there are some wonderful healing properties to the oils.

If you use a citrus oil like Bergamont be careful because they can be photosensative. Can cause a bad reaction in the sun. My horse loves DoTerra's Serenity oil for calming.

Thanks!:). I joined YLO at a seminar and she didn't have any. But I will check amazon for sure. Since the rain this morning my asthma has acted up and my sinuses. I rubbed franinsence(?) on my chest and throat and my slight attack went away. I was really surprised because I have been out of Advair for a couple weeks. For my sinuses I used peppermint and basil with a carrier oil on my sinuses over the bridge of my nose and feel much better! This a much appreciated thread.

I have been using Aroma Touch on my mares stifles and add peppermint with it as a rub down bath. She loves it!!

I have been using the oils for a while now and have had great results. I ONLY use Young Living (I'm a distributor now too) and that's all I will ever use.

I have a torn meniscus, and was taking hydrocodone every day. I use YL's Panaway and have not taken a hydrocodone since last October.

I also suffer from PCOS and I use the Progessence Plus every day.

If anyone is interested in the full list of oils that I use daily and why I use them, I would be more than happy to help, as well as answer any questions. I have not taken any prescriptions, over the counter meds, etc. since I started using YL oils.

For whatever reason...I can't handle the smell of the majority of the oils. We tried the Lavender in the diffuser at night and both times I had to get up and turn it off. I wonder why that is?

I have a friend who is like that too.  She is really sensitive to smells...and tastes too. She can't handle food with much seasoning on it at all.  The oils were too strong for her sense of smell.

Have you tried diffusing the lemon or lemongrass?  They are milder smells in the diffuser.

Maybe you've got an ultra good sniffer!

JMac - 2014-08-02 10:53 AM Is there a difference in strength or function between the DoTerra oils and the Young Living oils?
I've been told that DoTerra uses some synthetics in their oils and Living Young is all pure. Living Young grows all of their own plants to make their oils. A friend of mine went out west and actually helped with a harvest of one of their plants. They have fields all over the world.

Living Young began in 1993 while Doterra started in 2008.

Not true on the synthetics in the doTerra - that was something LY started some time back & there was a lawsuit.  As far as I know, both are pure oils ... I know the doterra has nothing synthetic & are 100% pure.
No matter what brand you use, there are some wonderful healing properties to the oils.
I did a lot of research on both companies when I was trying to decide.  From what I found out, the people who started DoTerra had originally worked at Young Living and went out on their own.  The lawsuit was brought against DoTerra for using proprietary  information (from what I can remember).

Neither have synthetics, some of the DoTerra oils have gone through more distillations than the Young Livings.

They are both good products.

I don't care for lavender, peace and calm or the joy blend, either but I love sandalwood, if you saw me sniffing it you would think I was huffing paint or something, lol. My horse doesn't like lavender either but loves his basil. I have another horse that when you offer oils he snorts and looks at you like you're trying to poison him, so I haven't used any on him.

So are you saying a company would lie about another competing company? LOL

NEVER!! LOL
There were more claims that were disputed too between the 2 companies, but from what I've heard, they were settled.
I can't handle the "flowery" oils ... they do my allergies in! I use the On Guard, Breathe & Frankincense the most I would say.
And the comment about being a distributor - YEP, agree w/NTO - I think anyone that signs up with either company is a distributor - that is the part I am not thrilled with since both are pyramid companies.

Our oils are all pure, and are all grown by us as well. I have used youngliving oils before I have used doterra, and I find doterra to be more effective in my opion. but in the end they are both benifial to what ever you are using them for.

Bothe, I feed the lemongrass and marjoram. Anything with a supplement label on the bottle is good for internal use. I recommend the book "Modern Essentials" it has everything ! I have tons of recipes.

We are avid Young Living users in our house! My daughter has terrible asthma and her inhaler has been replaced by Raven and Breathe Again. We have a horse who is a "roarer" few drops of R.C. in his nose and on his chest and he gets considerably quieter. my list goes on and on! I swear by "believe" any nervous barrel racer needs to get a bottle has been a life saver for me!

Put a couple of drops of peppermint oil on a cotton ball and place these anywhere you have mice. They work!

Frankincense, peppermint, basil, valor, lavender, breathe ease or breathe again, thieves and endoflex. The next ones I try are going to cypress and copaiba and niaouli. I use these on myself but I want to start using them on my horses. How and where do you put them on horses? I have used valor on my gelding's poll and spine but because of their coat I worry about using too little.

I had a huge plantar wart on my foot for snout 8 years. Tried everything possible to get rid of it. Burnt off 20x, $300 on laser and everything else imagineable. YL thieves finally got rid of it, hasn't come back. Also got rid of the one on my finger too.
I put lavender on my shoulders and areas at bed time to help me sleep.
Thieves and peppermint on my feet also worked great when I had a bad cough awhile back.

I have been using Essential Oils for 25 years and have taught classes about them for about 20 years.
Young Living Oils are the only ones I use as (in my opinion and experience) they are the most natural and pure.
What is also important to me is the way that Young Living "distill" their oils. They process them in stainless steel vats which is very important as that is one of the only metals you can process something in and not have the Oil uptake (absorb) some of the metal from the container. Other oil companies "distill" their oils in other types of metal containers which contributes to the oils not being pure.

2000100050010010010010025
We started a journey with the young living essential oils not to long ago, this was for mymy daughter, who has some pretty troublesome bladder issues.
Some quick back history, she was three (just three) started walking like she was drunk, knee pain and coin NOT go to the bathroom. She was diagnosed with atypical gullian birrie syndrome. After over a month in hospital we were able to go home. But had to Cath her to empty her bladder. She eventualy got whee she could pee, but she had vet week strength, not great control and not much for feeling. The nervs are still very damaged three almost four years later. (December 26 marks four years)
She could not go half a day without an accident. Several a day, frustrating for everbody and embarsing for her. And plauged bu infection after infection.

Any way on with the oils! I decided after her last dr apoiment where we were told to strongly consider medicaly shutting off her bladder and going back to cathaters I figured we have nothing to lose.

We meet with the local oil expert and did a bio scan on her she had something like 61 markers out? Almost them all!

Her oil program is : morning - thrives on feet, purification over bladder, drink ninga red. Night - frankensence on feet, purification over bladder. Throughout the day she drinks lemon in water (she loves this!)

The change, her bladder dosent palpate with a hard lump. Accidents are way down, she can go a day without one! She is starting to get better feeling and has the strength to hold it in and get to a bathroom! The more I use this stuff the most I am amazed!

For my self i drink the lemon as well and my milk supply (im breast feeding) has greatly increased. I didn't need it to but it has lol. Also I have struggle with thrush since baby was a week old since I started drinking the ninga red its complete resolved. I dont know for sure if the lemon and ninga red caused either but its the only change.

I also love love love Joy, peace and calm (really helps my over active toddler) pan away and valor. Lavander has helped lots too! Stores away. I really cant pick what ones I cant live without. Im just so amazed. s

Also some of them I dont care for the smell, for me purification is the worst lol but I LOVE what they do!
My husband oddly likes when I diffuse JOY he likes that smell, which I could odd lol. It very floral.

I also have read that when you diffuse you should start with five to ten min then turn it off and build up to more time.

You may want to look into Copaiba essential oil. It is supposed to be really good for bladder infections. Young living sells it.

Depending on how much you you are making say a big bottle or a small sample bottle of it. For the sample bottle is 40 drops Balance and 40 Serenity

CashNOut - 2014-08-04 4:25 PM I am a dealer for doterra, my friends horse has been lame for two years and has spent tons of $$$$$ on getting himn sound we started him on Marjoram and lemongrass, and also have started him on digest zen for his stomach. He is now sound with in 30 days and getting in shape as we speak. Our vet was speacless when he looked at him. Also has a healty coat on him with a mane finally growing !!!!!! he has never had a mane since he was born till now, always looked like someone chewed it off. I use oils on all my animals and myself.

Do you feed the oils or topical?

Bothe, I feed the lemongrass and marjoram. Anything with a supplement label on the bottle is good for internal use. I recommend the book "Modern Essentials" it has everything ! I have tons of recipes.

Is there a manual/book with equine recipes?

Yes there is a really good one, I don't mess with the whole fire and ice crap they put in there but the recipes are great it has recipes for dog/cat/horse

Me too. I have just started the oils, but already I have seen a difference. I use Thieves on my feet and breathe again on my chest, neck and over my nose. I also have applied Frankincense to my chest and that helped, but not as much as Breathe Again does. I have tried oils from Young Living and Native American Nutritionals. If you try the Thieves blend be sure tonic it with a carrier oil.

Thieves and Breathe Again, for sure, as well as RC, Peppermint, Lavender and Purification.

Do you still have the article I sent you with the testimonials of people who have been able to kick their inhalers and medications and use strickly oils?
