Location: Wyoming | Several years ago we all watched the tragedy and then all the outporing of help for a SD barrel racer named Wendy and her amazing horse named Dually.
Tragedy has struck a Colorado barrel racer and she needs all the prayers and help she can get. Please...if you can say a prayer or even dig in your pockets to help with her vet bills...please read her story.
It has been almost 2 weeks since tragedy changed my life. Bright and early on Saturday morning, July 19th I was headed to Castle Rock for the Mile Hi Barrel Horse race when I was broadsided by a car that ran a stop sign driving at a high ra...te of speed. I had 3 horses in the trailer and they all went through the dividers and the front wall between the horse compartment and the dressing room. Parr was in the first stall and ended up in the bed of the goose neck with both his front feet through the window. I would like to thank the people (whoever they are ) in the cars behind me who helped as much as they could to get Casino and Kid Rock out of the trailer. Crews on scene had given up on Parr who was trapped in the front. Kenny was working nearby and showed up in time to get Parr out of the window and turned around to exit the trailer. We were fortunate enough to have been close to home and to have had the support of Littleton Equine Medical Center at the scene. Littleton had 3 vet trucks, multiple staff and a surgeon to assist in evaluating the horses at that time. After evaluation, Littleton helped prep the animals to be hauled to their facility for further care. Parr and Casino had to stay at the clinic in ICU for multiple days, they were later released to come home and Littleton made many visits to the house for follow-ups. I would like to say how grateful I am for their support during this time. There are not many clinics who could have handled that extent of injury to 3 horses at one time. Please consider using them for any need that you might have and recommend them to everyone you know – they are amazing! Currently, Kid Rock and Parr are at home. Kid Rock needs some teeth pulled but is otherwise doing good. Parr is doing well but has a long road ahead of him with healing and protection from infection. Casino was put to rest this week, the extent of his injuries to the severed tendon were just too much. I appreciate the outpouring of support from family, friends, and even those I do not know – I am truly grateful for your generous thoughts/actions and prayers. ~~~~~~~ I dug deep in my pockets when Dually's vet bills were devastinly high...because as horse owners..we know what those vet bills can do to us. I am asking if anyone wants to donate to Cathy's vet bills....Please contact Littleton Equine Medical Center and pay it directly to them. Thanks everyone!

| I am in tears from reading this. I do not know how I would handle this situation. I am so sorry that she going through this and for the loss of her horse. I don't think that non horse people get us horsey people at all. They have no respect for our rigs and the inability to stop on a dime and they also don't get our love for these animals. I am so sorry again for what she is going through. My thoughts and prayers go out to her. |

Location: Wyoming | This is a horrible tragedy...as it did not have to happen. But the fact is, it did happen and we need to always pay attention for those that have no regard for us or our precious cargo. She has lost one horse...and one that it is still in critical condition. It takes everything she has...24/7 to keep up with his doctoring and his care. Any help, whether it be your prayers or a donation towards her vet bill...I know would help to ease her mind.

Alot of people these days are in a hurry, driving like maniacs and not paying attention to anything around them, including stop lights. They have no regard for anyone else and push the limit. Because of this, she has lost something that is precious to her. And for that I am sorry. |

I've been ran off the road before with a trailer as well... Lucky enough for me my trailer ended up right side up on top of my truck. My horses back and neck were out. A few Chiro visits and he was good as new.
(People need to seriously be educated in Driver's Ed about our rigs...)
I couldn't imagine The vet bills... Digging deep for her now... |

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping Cathy out. Sometimes bad things happen to good people....and she is truly one of God's angels. Breaks my heart that she has to go through this...not with just one horse but 3 (now 2).
If you chose to pay it forward by simply saying a prayer for her or helping out with vet bills, know that your kindness does not go unnoticed. Especially by the people at Littleton who cried with me when she took my credit card payment and certainly not Cathy.

Thank goodness I wasn't the only sobbing mess they had on the phone then!!! Broke down, composed myself, broke down again, etc. The receptionist asked if I was okay...good grief. I'm going to blame it on menopause.
I hauled on Saturday to take two of myhorses to have them chiro'd and bioscanned, my head was on a swivel looking for potential DA drivers just thinking of Cathy and her horses, bless you Lord for getting us there and back safe and please continue watching over Cathy's 2 survivors and her equine angel. |

Location: Wyoming | This post was posted from Mile High Barrel Horse yesterday which includes what I posted...however, Carol had a conversation with Cathy and it has a little more information for you. ACCIDENT UPDATE: From Cathy Ferguson herself: It has been 3 weeks since the accident. I just can't thank everyone enough for your cards and donations to Littleton Equine on my behalf. I don't know many of those that have been so thoughtful and generous but you know who you are and I hope you are reading this...I send my most sincere THANKS!"
In chatting with Cathy, I learned that she basically ...has a tearfest every time she walks in Little Equine Medical Center.......the outpouring of support, financial help, and etc She has been overwhelmed by the level of support and donations towards her vet bills. Additionally, I learned that Cathy recently learned she won a saddle at the MSF Productions series.....She was THRILLED by that news.
As for her horses: Kid Rock is well; he's the one that was on the back of the trailer.....Parr still has a long loooonnnnnggggg road to recovery. He was the one in the front "hole" of the trailer and went thru the slant wall......it will be some time before they know for sure the success of his recovery.
The road to recovery has been well traveled' but there is so much further to go. |
