First I wanted to share my beautiful birthday flowers that just got delivered from my husband.
The second photo is the culprit of this evil deed.

I have a question regarding anal glands in young dogs . The flowers were delivered by a lady and my youngest pup (8 months old / neutered ) saw them walk up to the front door and came unglued . He was not happy about  these flowers with legs knocking on the door so I got him and the others put away to open the door and as soon as I closed it I noticed the unmistakable smell of anal gland fluid.
I checked all the dogs and sure enough it was him . I have personally never heard of them supressing with excessive activity ? Is this something that releases at high levels of agitation? Is it time to have them cleaned , I have never noticed an issue prior to this incident.
Most importantly what gets it off your leather sofa ?
I have candels lit , febreezed in excess, used leather cleaner on the sofa and pet odor stuff spray on top of it and I still smell it bad. He is getting a bath next.

I dunno if agitation or age and anything to do with it but when I worked as a tech we had numerous dogs get upset and express their anal glands but they were mostly small bred dogs. Although a very large american bull dog (he was about 3 i think) absolutely ruined a new pair of scrub pants I was wearing for the first time. No info on help with the smell other than baking soda and blue dawn to get stains out.

Fear can cause them to express.

This is what I thought happened. The monster ups man that delivered our barbie dream house to our house scared the snot out of my dog, and anal gland fluid. That smell lasted for a good 3 days. not sure about other peoples leather couches, but we spray ours with windex if they get too smelly(we got them for free so they aren't something we worry about)

Yeah...the agitation over the Delivery man can sure cause them to express like that.  I'd go ahead and empty them manually when giving the bath to just be sure everything looks normal back there.

As for removing the stench....We always joked it was like coming in contact with the "Bog of Eternal Stench" in that 80's movie Labrynth.  (David Bowie movie...pure awesomeness

Use a cleaner that is an enzymatic cleaner like Simple Solution or any pet odor eliminator that has active enzymes....and crack a window for about a week

The only time I have ever known a dog to express them is when something "scares the crap" out of them!

Except for dragging their butt along the ground, I didn't know they could do that... My mom taught us all at a young age how to drain them manually tho...

Anal Gland Fluid really does smell terrible, and from experience, yes they can easily express them without any help. I've seen it mostly happen because of being startled, but one of our friends has a dog that does it when she's relaxed, excited, scared, you name it. You shouldn't have to do express it anymore, since the dog self-expressed.

As for the smell, buy leather conditioner if you don't have some already, and then take some soapy water on a towel or something you can clean easily (throwing away is even better) and wash the spot. Dry the area and then put the conditioner on to keep the leather from drying out. I have had a lot of luck with Simple Green getting really bad smells out as well. Best of luck on getting the smell gone! Open up the windows and let the fresh air flow!

I've owned dogs for 49 years and have no idea of what you people speak. Maybe Louisiana dogs don't have stinky anal glands?????????????
