Location: TN | I have just found out that almost all the cartiledge in my left knee is gone. I am doing therapy and taking supplements to try and save my knee. I can't ride for two weeks but when I can ride again I want to protect my knee to the best of my ability. So any of you that have knee issues, surgery, etc. please let me know what works for you to help keep the strain away from your knees. I know there are some stirrups you can buy but don't remember where I saw them....thanks in advance for your help.... |

| Try synvisc, it is given once a week for 5 weeks. They you can repete this every six months. what it is ha, just like we give horses. The arthritis make the joint fluid watery and the synvisc replaces the thin fluid. I have kicked surgery down the road for 3 years.

Location: In the Hills of Texas | I've also been on the HA injections and can't say enough about how well they work. I've been told by 3 different orthos I need a full knee replacement.
I use the Nettles half breed stirrups I got from RockyRoad. They made a huge difference before I started getting injections.

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I have both of these and they are great on knees..Nettles Stirrups and these are the Halfbreeds, they are wooden so they give just right to help take the pressure off your knees, and the Walls Slanted.

Ditto this. Especially the Walls.
I've had both ACLs repaired, my medial and lateral miniscuses in my right knee, my lateral miniscus in my left knee, and my PCL in my right knee ALL repaired. By the time I was 20. Thank you high school volleyball and basketball.
All my saddles have Walls on them, I also keep the fenders turned with wooden dowels. I have found that even the slight pressure from trying to fight the fenders is what causes the majority of my pain. Also, use a mounting block as often as you can. My PT also recommended me to do quad/ham strengthening exercises to help stabilize the joint since my ligaments are so questionable. |

Location: Texas | I usually use the Walls slanted/twisted stirrups, but I went on a trail ride today with my neighbor and friends. I used my saddle that had the Nettles stirrups on it, not thinking I'd be riding long. We rode 14 miles, and 5+ hours, and my knees did fine. |

She is some kind of athlete and says that is what kept her competing in all of her athletic endeavors. It is thin enough that you could easily wear it under your jeans. |

I have the knee brace and I'm actually wearing it right now but I will say...Even when my knee was hurting I could get in my saddle and ride with the Nettles pain free. The Tommie Copper works well when I walk. It is thin and I don't know if it actually gives much support but it does give me pain relief. I'm over due for injections and with my new great Obamunation health care crap, I have a $6,000. deductible so I'm trying to wait until I can't stand it anymore as the injections are very expensive. |

I agree. also look into the Bregg Fusion OA brace. This brace has gotten me back up and walking. Sure wish. i would have found it a long time ago. the ones the medical supply and pt places want to put you in dont support or stay up. if yours isnt several the milder version will work great. I started with it and then went to the fusion. cant say enough great things about. bregg braces

| I love those synvisc shots when pain flairs up, i use a flector patch they are hard to,stay i put them on at night they can help pain. I have rheumatoid arthritis and both of my knees are bad, as well as ankles and feet, back shoulders, and any joint in my body.

Location: The end of the Earth, SE AR | My husband has had 3 knee replacements. His first replacement has to be replaced after 21 years because the plastic piece in it fell apart. A "revision" as it is called requires them to cut, chip, chisel, the old metal and knee out of his leg bone and then they had to drive the new metal ends into his bone farther than the original so it would "take". It requires alot of carpentry on the leg bones.
He was riding horses again in 4 weeks. His recovery involved pain pills so he could push through the pain and exceed daily expectations on his therapy and get back to normal activities twice as fast as they predicted.
When the time comes for you all to have a replacement, he said you will have wished you had done it sooner. |

I don't do this every night but when my knee has been bothering me I do. I like the Tommie Copper during the day and the PHT at night. |
