Location: SE Louisiana | ALHAMBRA, Calif. - The mystery of the found 150-pound tortoise in Alhambra near Los Angeles has been solved.
The hefty reptile was spotted about 1 p.m. Saturday, reports CBS Los Angeles.
The Alhambra Police Department put out a release stating: "The tortoise did try to make a run for it; but, our officers are pretty fast. Almost had a pursuit! It took two officers to take this guy into custody because it weighs about 150 pounds (and our cuffs . . . well not practical in this situation)"
Police could not rule out if the tortoise was abandoned or from the wild but reported Sunday on their Facebook page the reptile and his human family have been reunited.
Eight different people called claiming to be the rightful owner -- at least one other called about a possible adoption -- but Animal Control was able to determine who the turtle belonged to by revealing "distinctive markings."
For the record, the tortoise is named Clark.
Officials said it is technically illegal to posses the animal but police said "we enjoy keeping families together, so an exception was made in this case."

Location: SE Louisiana | I saw a cute video last week. Someone had a smaller turtle they wanted to let run loose in the house, but they wanted to be able to find it if it hid somewhere... So they tied a string around it with a floating balloon to mark it's position..

Location: Somewhere between raising hell and Amazing Grace | I saw that story! It's not "technically" illegal to own them! The police probably had no idea what type he was. Many people think they are gopher tortoises which are illegal to touch let alone own. Now they may be illegal to possess within certain city limits, or even some states, but I don't know that for sure. We have about 20-30 photos of Moses, every inch of his shell and such, just in case we ever need to prove he's ours :)
They got lucky. 99 percent of the time you never see them ever again when they get out. |

I don't see why not... Surely there is an area thick enough to drill into and then epoxy over and not cause any discomfort.. |
