Location: Mississippi | Third one in 3 mths. I'm so frustrated.
Is there a reason that a horse would be having multiple abcesses? Maybe something missing in his diet? He's barefoot, but I'm putting shoes on him just as soon as he heals up because I'm thinking being barefoot may have something to do with it. |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | The weather? There is an abscess epidemic this year. One of mine has had 3 severe ones, 2 in the same foot with a 3 week period, but she also has cracky feet and an injury that are contributing factors. I'm keeping her out of the pond until she is healed up completely and so far, so good. |

Location: Dubach, LA | Does he kick in his stall? I had a mare that would bruise/abcess if I stalled her next to a particular gelding that she hated. |

Location: Mississippi | Thanks! Talked to my farrier & he said he had never seen so many horses with abcesses like this year. We have had more rain than normal & cooler temps, too. I guess I'll just have to deal with it. Sigh..... |

Its probly all the rain, if there is excessive moisture on the ground the feet tend to be softer and more easily bruised. Ive had trouble like this in the past.
Another thing to keep in mind is use a drawing salve wrap the foot, and soak in epenson salts. You need to get all the puss pocket out. If there is some left the hole can close then the puss pocket builds back up makes them lame again then breaks open AGAIN. IV had that happen before too.
I hate abscesses haven't had any in quite some time though :-D |
