Just got my gelding back 8/3 from 60 days at a trainer. I wasn't able to get down for a lesson the second month he was there because our schedules just didn't line up (he was 3 hours and a few hundred miles away) and I only got down for three lessons the first month.
Schooled him at home last week a few times, trail rode on Saturday. Brought him to the NBHA event that was pretty close to home yesterday. He handled all the horses in the warm-up very well, didn't give them a sideways glance (in the past, he turned loopy when other horses were cantering around, especially if they passed us going in the opposite direction).
I am still learning to ride him again, he's like a new horse. We trotted the pattern for our practice run, he was a little skittish at the first barrel because there were people hanging on the rail and the booth where the announcer is was right at the first barrel. The rest he was fine.
When we did our run, I loped him through, and he shied at the first barrel, but was okay at the 2nd and 3rd.
I have a terrible habit of setting him up going into the first barrel too close, so we don't have a tight turn. Considering I've only had him home for a week before going out, I'm happy with how yesterday went.
Now just need to work on my setting him up better, and taking him out to get the exposure that he needs! WOO HOO!

Exciting, but nerve-wracking! He's been a handful in the past, sometimes, so I sent him to a trainer to get him started on the pattern correctly, with a program to start him, not someone who just goes in and runs them around and says they trained him (which is how a lot of folks around here operate)
