| I bought a used cinch chix net and it's not bad at all if you have a tractor to hold it up while you put the net on. I bought it used to see if I'd like it and I plan on eventually buying one for each paddock. |

None of mine are shod, so no. My metal bale rings started falling apart so I don't have one to use with the net. As long as they aren't shod you don't have to have the ring, but do need it if they are shod.
They waste much less with the net. |

My little donkey got a back foot caught in mine and I had to cut him out of it. He's lucky to be alive-- a couple of the horses were beating him up when I found him because he couldn't move out of their way. I haven't had any shoes pulled off. |

That would worry me. I thought the holes were too small for the donkey, but he managed somehow. |

| I use cinch chix nets all of the time, but I use a metal bale feeder for horses that has a solid piece of thin metal about 18 inches around the bottom. This way the net stays in the bale feeder as they eat the bale and have never had a foot caught in the net. We also use one for the cows with an open bottom, but the net has the bigger openings. |

Location: Bandera, TX | I have three foals and their dams on round bales with the medium sized holes in the net. I have the poly rings on our home place. The "dangerous" metal rings are up at the ranch. Wouldn't you know it... I had a Woodbridge baby get cut on the bolt sticking out the wrong direction (it was facing out toward the horses). Someone had that one and only facing the wrong direction, and I didn't see it when I put they ring out.
I love the rings. My hubby wanted to put the little caps on but I instead talked him into a little file job on the bolts. |

Crap. I didn't think about that. The one net I have is out on a bale in the paddock with a mare and foal. Have not had any issues, but never know.

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I would just do the old way,,, neither, gosh I know horses can waste so much hay this way, but reading this thread I would be too worried about a baby getting hung up. I have round bale rings and never had a problem, but I have no babys out here..
I wonder maybe get one of those large round plastic water tanks and set a round bale inside of one, might save some hay.
