| I raised this mare and she did great from day 1, when I started riding her she might spook a little bit but then she would be fine after that. Then when she was 4 I got shot in the close proximity of the horses, all the police etc around. Well then my dad came and got the horses and took them to his house for a few months during my rehab. After that he bought a place for us to live and he brought them there. A few months later I started riding again and she was a complete spook. She would get used to the flag we were using on her then the next time u started all over again. Loud noises like dirt hitting the wall or barrel scares her to death. I was wondering maybe ulcers? |

| Yes in 2010 a man came and shot me, left me for dead then shot my husband numerous times. My mare was doing so good on the barrels before this and now she well spooks half the time. |

| Yes they did catch him and he is doing 3 life's and 100 years. We really aren't sure why, we think it's because my husband and the other 3 were going to testify about his steeling trailers. I'm doing alright, I have trouble with my right side. Oh ya my blue heeler saved me by laying on me and waking me up. I couldn't walk so I crawled in to find a phone and he pulled the blanket down off the couch. |

Location: Florida.. | shes been off a awhile.. new places.. etc.. it may take time.. I dont think she would know you were shot.
if she didnt come up and smell the blood and fear on you . the noise may have scared her and contribute to it... but I dont think personally it has anything to do with the fact you were shot.....the gun noise and more like time off. probrably.... etc.. |

| Sudden spookiness can also be a sign of EPM. I have a friend who was about to retire her horse because he suddenly started spooking horribly at everything...even at home in the pasture or her own arena and wasn't turning barrels worth a flip. Someone suggested she treat for EPM, she did and the horse is winning barrel races again. Maybe a long shot, but hey, you never know. |

| Well, I suppose if it were me and I had gone through the trauma you have, and my horse is spooky with me and no one else, I would be examining my own actions around the horse. What about your body language and internal thoughts could be setting her off? I can't imagine myself being a very good calm, strong, and loving role model after experiencing what you've gone through. |

| No she don't spook AT other people. My dad has been riding her the last couple of days and it's the same thing with him. |

| I guess I misunderstood you. You said that she is fine with other people and just spooky with you. Do you mean she is only spooky while you're riding her? Maybe she just needs some trainer attention. Sometimes a really good colt starter can help a rider desensitize and gain a trusting bond with a spooky and unsure horse. |

Location: Florida.. | well then if its been that long it has nothing to do with the incident then.. id look at epm or eyes checked .... have blood work up on her then possibly have a trainer check her out ..imho |

| Well I have one who is retired who has had 4 bouts of epm, that would be my luck. I have the vet coming out, I will let u all know what I find out. Thanks for all ur input. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Check your tack make sure its not hurting her anywhere, like check to make sure your saddle fits right, pad is not to stiff, bit is not hurting/pinching. She's not being cinch up to tight. Just a few things to check on her, some of this stuff can make a horse nervous. |
