Im saving up money to order a custom Cervi Crown C and I wanted to see your Crown C's so I can see what the different options look like on saddles.

That is the best thing to do. I had my mind set on a rough out with dots, but found a good deal on a fully tooled and really like it. Glad I didn't get the rough out think they don't look as good when they get used ( or I prob wouldn't know how to clean it right )

As long as I can afford it, I will always have fully tooled. I got a great deal on this saddle.

Here is the Reinsman I had prior to the Martin just for tooling ideas.

I love fully tooled, I think I may go with the 7/8 tooled though. It's hard to envision what a painted background might look like, if its worth the price, different color seats with leather colors, etc. Question---- if you have a chocolate leather color saddle, do you find that it is hard to find breastcollars/headstalls in a leather to match that saddle leather color?

Here is my new one! I ordered 7/8th tooled, but the lady ordered the wrong one so I ended up with half tooled, yet she still charged me full price even though I know roughout is cheaper. :(

ETA: I haven't had an issue with finding other tack to match, and I can always oil it darker.

I personally don't like fully tooled unless it's on a stand in my living room.  Rough out gives you grip- I'd go for a half tooled-

I had a half breed chocolate with an oil tan seat and dots.  Gorgeous and LOVED that seat.  I traded it for one of the ugly roughout ones.  And I mean this dude is ugly, but it works for my horse, so oh well.  I have a pretty roughout in chocolate, so I think it depends on leather color.  The ugly one is kind of a medium brown color, I don't know which color it actually is.  Will add some pics in a sec.

Here is mine.  I did not order it, I just bought it used because it was the right gullet and seat size for me and I probably won't have it but for another month or so.  I like the dots and the elephant in the seat, but once I know that my gelding is done filling out I will order a 7/8th tooling with full elephant seat (love, love, love that seat) in a darker color that looks better on my (should be and will be next summer) black gelding.  I plan on trying to get some Rodeo Drive conchos and see if Martin can put those on it and then have a matching tack set.

I know it isn't a Crown C, but it's an FX3 Racer by Martin.  But if you're looking for options, these are just some that Martin offers that you have to ask for specifically.

I have one with the elephant inlay seat that is tooled and another that is roughout. I like the roughout better. Roughout is not slick, and frankly there's nothing prettier than a chocolate roughout. Found out one really important thing this summer. Roughout saddles are comfy in shorts. Tooled rub your calves raw. And yes, when it's 110 degrees I ride in shorts!

This is mine, it's all rough out, has the star boarder with studs and an inlaid suede seat. I really like it, it's my go to saddle.

Thank you! :) I don't think the pommel is much different in height than the Crown C (maybe a 1/4"?), but edges are definitely more square and that (to me) makes it seem a lot taller. I do believe they are all that high, though. I really like its tooling. I took a gamble with that and the chestnut leather with black background paint. I thought it would look good on my black mare. I can't wait to go pick it up and put it on her!

Thank you! I appreciate it. :)  I like the swells on the FX3, too. I also really love the Crown C's. :) The horn is actually the same height as the Crown C, but these ones seem to be slanted forward (which I really like as opposed to the Crown C's).

I custom ordered this saddle for my black mare from Martin through National Saddlery in OKC at the BBR finals this past April.  A really nice guy named Jesse and a very helpful and kind woman named Jaye help me design it and pick it out all of the options.  Jaye also helped me fit my little mare.

I LOVE your roughout saddle!! How did you order the triple border? My next one will likely be a roughout and I absolutely love that border.  I've configured a bunch on the Martin website, but some features aren't offered (like the extra tooling on mine). Is that border the same way? Or are there some tricks to the trade when customizing it on their website?

Awww Thanks, I really liked that saddle, it was a shame its didnt fit my horse, I should have ordered another one like it in a different gullet, but for some dumb reason I didnt,lol..
I ordered that saddle threw a BB on here that was a dealer with Martin's, I tolded her what I wanted and she got it done..I love triple borders, If I do another one I'm going to try for 4 borders,lol..I think that would really look cool.

I second the demand for pictures!  My gelding is black (or supposed to be, anyways. lol) and I'd love to see what the combo would look like!  I'm not a fan of light oil on him, but this looks like it'd be stunning!

I have no clue how to imbed a picture, but here is a link to my Crown C. I LOVE the Elephant seat! It is the first seat i've had other than suede. I think the dots also work well on a Crown C. It was so hard for me to make up my mind while designing this saddle. It was my first custom saddle, but I am very excited how it turned out.

Are those the clear crystal conchos? Also is the oil medium oil? I love the look of that leather color. That is one attractive saddle! I agree, I think the dots look really classy on the crown c's.

Yes. The conchos are the clear Crystal cross conchos. The finish is actually chestnut. Now that I've ridden in it the color has dulled some but it still looks about the same with a little dust on it. :) I wanted at least chestnut so the blue jean marks wouldn't show so bad. I can't stand how obvious it is on some natural saddles. I was going to do chocolate but knew they showed A LOT of dirt. So I went with the finish in the middle.

Havent had my Crown C for very long but I absolutely LOVE it!! Noticed a huge difference in my horses stride and it fits him like a glove.

Brennh91 - 2014-08-18 5:20 PM I know it isn't a Crown C, but it's an FX3 Racer by Martin.  But if you're looking for options, these are just some that Martin offers that you have to ask for specifically.
Where did you buy this saddle, I like the way the swells look and the horn seem taller, I like the taller horns, good looking saddle

Well you have great taste, love the way you got this saddle put together. When you get it you have got to post pictures of it on your mare.

I second the demand for pictures!  My gelding is black (or supposed to be, anyways. lol) and I'd love to see what the combo would look like!  I'm not a fan of light oil on him, but this looks like it'd be stunning!

Sorry it's taken so long! I tried taking pictures last night, but it was getting dark and my poor girl was getting so mad with me trying to get it all rigged up for her.  She's been on stall rest for going on 8 months, so she was just so excited and thought we were going for a ride and she was getting really antsy. Heck, I don't even have a snap for the back cinch strap that hooks to the front cinch on it yet.

Also, if there's something I need to do different, please let me know. When I tried taking pictures last night, I only had a 1/2" saddle pad on me, and that wasn't working whatsoever. She was dancing around like a mare who's been on stall rest for almost 8 months. So I used a 3/4" pad today and that worked loads better. She's also lost some mass on her back since was fitted, so that's also another issue (stall rest isn't exactly her thing). But using that 3/4" pad and putting the shim on there was a lot easier today when she was a bit more calm. This was my first time putting a gullet that big on a horse. It was a bit different than an 8" gullet! (Some of the angled pictures might make it look like it's running a litle downhill, but there wasn't any rock when I put the shim on).

Thats just a beautiful saddle. I like seeing it on your mare, I can see more details on it, I like the way the swells are sitting, did you get to sit in it while it was on your mare? I have never seen swells sit like that befor, very interesting looking

Well, thank you. :) I really appreciate it. It looks a lot lighter in the pictures than it does in person (to me, at least). I think I like the swells, too. I didn't sit in it with it on her. I have another mare that we just picked up last week on the east coast and she's pretty stout, and I might see if it fits her. It has a 10.5" gullet with flatter bars, and it might be a bit small for her. She's pretty big, but she's bigger than my black mare. I'll see if it fits her and if it does, that's what I'll probably ride her in until I can get her her own saddle.

To the original poster, I've never compared Martin's different angled bars. Mine has flattened bars, so when I picked it up, I took a picture of it sitting next to another FX3 with I think a 9" gullet and regular bars. Mine is on the left, and the regular bars is on the right.

I have an 8" that fits my 15.2 hh 4 year old, but it's too small for my big shouldered wider backed gelding.
