Location: God's country | Sell barrel bred yearlings? I am going to try to attend the Heritage Place sale this year but it seems to be more geared to the racing crowd. Wanting to know, historically, what sale brings the best prices for barrel bred yearlings. |

Location: Somewhere around here | I would still go to Heritage but there's Jud Little's sale, a few in NE, and here and there. Usually you can find a few if you google "production horse sales". |

Location: Texas | There is a Frenchmans Guy filly in the HP yearling sale. Out of a Corona Cartel daughter. And she is palomino <3. Not sure why they put her in HP but it will be interesting to see what she sells for!
To the OP- The BFA sale in december has a good selection of prospects. I also like the TX Best Sale in Waco, TX in November. |

they know a ton of barrel racers pick up horses there and the prices are probably better than at the bfa |

Location: Harrisonville, Missouri | I don't know that selling one as a yearling is what I would do. I think I would hold them over until the HP January sale. Those two year old barrel breds seem to do pretty well at that sale. You don't have to hold them over the entire winter. You can go to the HP website and look at the results for each sale. That might shed a little light and help you with your decision. |

| If I still own my Chasin filly next year she'll go to Texas Best as a yearling. I have a race bred colt that is a yearling this year who might still end up there if I can make a decision before they are full. Barrel racers buy at Heritage and know what they're looking for. |

We are planning on having some foals to sell in the next couple of years, but we are from the southeast and don't have any big sales around this area. I will try to go to these sales before we start selling but didn't know which one sale would be the best to try. Of course, you want the most money for your product so that's why I was curious. Thanks again! |

Jud sells his horses with maybe one or two guest consignors and hasn't sold any yearlings in the last three years. I haven't seen this year's catalog. |

Location: Western performance horse Hades | Two of the highest selling yearlings sold at the Texas Best Sale last year.
Yearlings are good to sell if you don't have the time or money to spend on adding value through training. If you look at marginal costs versus marginal returns, selling a well fit, pedigreed yearling gives you just about the same amount of profit as a 2 or sometimes 3-year-old in training.
