My neighbors, who were not awake at that time of night, called the cops on me. Saturday morning, before I left to deliver that colt, the police were knocking on my door. He was very rude to me and told me that my neighbor wanted to file charges on me because my horses tore up two of their yards. I proceeded to tell him that it wasn't my horses and that another deputy from his office was here with me that night (for 4 hours) trying to catch the horses and keep them off of the road. We, also, walked them about a mile down the road to the owner's house after we found out who they belonged. He pretty much acted like I was lying and kept telling me to do something to keep my horses in. I finally just stopped him and said for him to go check back with his other deputies and to check the 911 tapes for proof that it was not my horses. He even told me there were different ages of poop in the neighbors yard...smh. I wanted to pound my head into a brick wall by the time he left with "friendly advise" that I buy an electric charger to keep my horses on my property. I haven't had a chance to speak with my neighbors yet and I hope that I can maintain my cool when I tell them the next time they call the cops on me to make sure it's actually me that they should be calling the cops on. ok, I feel better now lol.

He said the neighbor complained that his riding lawn mower ran over divits in his hard and that bothered him and, also, that his lawn mower tire ran over a pile of horse poop and it really stunk. All I could do was stare at him blankly......

Apparently, enough to call the cops over lol.

I can just hear that conversation, "um, yeah, I've got horse poop on my lawn mower tire and I'd like to file charges for that."

Had the same thing happen with animal control one time. An officer knocked on our door waking me up when I still lived with mom and dad, telling me my dogs had killed a bunch of chickens. I ask what dog.. They said a beagle and a lab. We didnt own a lab at the time, but did own a beagle. I told him we didn't have a lab, and pointed him in the way of the people near us who did, and that I was pretty sure our beagle wasn't gone, and that he was raised around chickens and never bothered them, but if he had a reason to think he was in on it to have the guy bring us a bill for half of the chickens. The officer went to the other house and come back about an hour later apologizing because when he pulled up in the people who owned the labs yard, they had packed some of the dead chickens home and they also had a hound cross dog that the chicken owner thought was a beagle.

Hopefully you get this cleared up, if they get out again I would take pics and/or video so you can show that it wasn't your horses, stuff like this is such a pain!

It is irritating that the owner didn't go talk to my neighbor's. She saw they had tracked the yard up. I told the cop that one of them needed to go talk to my neighbors because I knew they'd say something....I just knew it. So, not only did the deputy not tell the neighbors, he, also, didn't tell his fellow officers either (I guess). I spent 4 hours in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, fighting with the one I caught who was in constant motion, trying to paw me, while I was throwing sticks at the stallion that was trying to fight my yearlings through the fence (he was insane, wild and mean). Then, I walked the pawer home (about a mile away) because her owner was too scared of her.

It's just irritating that I get the cops called on me. I want to throw rotten eggs at someone's house now.....give them a good reason to call the cops.

My neighbors think I'm the only one around here with horses. I have one neighbor who lives back in the woods. He keeps a grade stud on a rope in his yard. This stud gets loose about once every three or four months. Every time he gets loose, I get someone knocking on my door telling me my horse is loose. Last time it happened I guess I either didn't answer the door because I was asleep or someone just thought they were bein helpful and put this grade stud in the back... with my cow bred mare. My husband got home from work and woke me up telling me the bad news. I'd rather have had the sheriff's office called on me!

I'm so sorry that happened to you and the guy was rude. Some people are just plain ignorant.

You have a good point lol....I would have crapped my pants if I had woken up to find that little paint, welch, terrorist stallion in with my two year old filly! Fortunately, I am the only person that can actually catch a horse around there....and that includes the other owner of the horses......lol...I tried to hand her the lead rope of her horse and she put her hands up and said, "oh no, I can't take her. I'm scared of her." I'm like, "she's your best horse, sure she paws, but she's the only one you can actually catch." lol

You should send your neighbor a bill for fertilizing their yard, since they think it was your horse that did it.

Same thing happens to us every once in a while. We have a neighbor I call "Deliverence" that has 2 horses. They get out occasionally and everyone around calls or stops and tells us our horses are out. They have torn up our yard numerous times. It's annoying.

I had a neighbor like that before I moved to Dallas. He called the police more than once on us. We had a tree removed from our front yard and the tree removal company backed up a little to close to his yard and barely edged it with the back tires of the truck. It didn't do much just maybe a few inchs of grass was dented in. He called the police to deliver us a bill to have a lawn service company come repair the dents. New Years eve we set off one pack of fireworks because it is also my daughters birthday, he called the cops. I rode my children on the 4-wheeler down the street to their friends house and he called the police that I was riding in the road. We had friends over to grill and my children brought the radio out to play music, he called the police. We never got in trouble but it was annoying so we avoided doing anything at home eventually. Thank God we moved!

What a crap head! I can't believe people sometimes. Some people have nothing better to do than to look for stuff to complain about. I swear, if those horses get out again, I'm going knock on my neighbors door so he can see first hand who's horses they are. I'm sure he'll call the cops because I woke him up in the middle of the night.......but, I don't care now lol.

If you catch them in his front yard, you could just tie them up and leave them there.
When the cops show up, just say, "not mine, all of mine are present and accounted for." Then just let HIM deal with it.

Sadly, they have no halters or lead ropes, so I'd end up losing all my crap lol. The lady showed up with no halters, no lead ropes and no feed. I had to supply all of the above. I should send her a bill lol.

If the strays owner has no feed, I bet those lil darlins would love it if you sprinkled a bag of cheap sweet feed all over the lawn next door, they may even spend the whole night pawing and pooping.  I would keep a spare bag handy for the next time they get out, then sit back with your popcorn and watch, lol.

Just wait until you have animal control called on you because you 'inhumanely blind' your horses...They showed up with the sheriff in tow! .....Imagine their surprise when we explained to them what flymasks were.

LRQHS - 2014-08-18 9:47 AM  My neighbors, who were not awake at that time of night, called the cops on me.

Why would you ever talk to these people?  What possible good would it do?

Well, I'd like to let them know that they called the cops on the wrong person and that I really didn't appreciate it. And, I'd, also, like to offer a good box blading to the yard for them......just being neighborly :

I'd, also, like to tell them that if their grass mysteriously dies that I didn't spray it with round up or anything like that.....in the middle of the night......

Oh yes...definitely this!  ^^^

or...if you are in the mood to mail them something...why not a lovely box of poop?
Thought has crossed my mind A LOT, but they would sooooo know it was me lol.
most likely .... hmmmmmmmm can we throw rotten tomatoes at their yard to attract rodents of all sizes?? Of course we'd need to do this at night .... hmmmmm do they have a dog?
No dog. I'm thinking of getting a mule or donkey though......nothing like a little hee hawing to piss the neighbors off.

Guineas and peacocks.......

I vote for Guineas and a donkey!!! The more noise the better! Have you taught the herd of chihuahua puppies to howl on command yet?? This needs to happen .....

At least my animal control peeps knew what a fly sheet was when the same called called three times in one week about the 'blanketed' horse in July.

Can a person buy seed for dandelions? and other weeds and throw out handfuls upon handfuls of the seed in their precious yard?? and next time the horses are out - I agree - you should grain them on the yard too - hoping they pee on the yard - lol big yellow stains that take years upon years to have anything grow back.

I would file a complaint against the police officer for disorderly conduct, he presumed you guilty without the evidence, and refused to investigate even when you provided avenues to prove your innocence.
