Currently am the owner of 8 y/o dash for cash gelding. He was being turned out into pasture. He was turned out and bumped his hip into fence. He was given 5 days off and started getting better. However, he got his feet done and started walking on his back hip funny. He was taken to vet and was told he has a small fracture in his hip. What is his protagonists? Has anyone had any kind of experience with this and what was the outcome? Will he ever be able to run barrels? I was told by vet just time and bute! He is my dream horse and will be devastated if he will not be able to recover!
Was it the hip or the pelvis? If it was the hip, which part ....?
Take a deep breath. If the vet said it was minor ... take your x-rays and get another opinion. I think so many of the injuries out there are treatable and with the correct help, an animal can come back really well.
It will take time if there is a crack/minor fracture and by time I mean TIME ... so pull up the patience undies and get started with another opinion from a specialist perhaps?
Well I took my horse for a second opinion. They said it was a small fracture in his back left hip. Not in his joints. Vet said it was a common injury and would be fine in 1-2 months!
